Vicki Said:

Does anyone know where i can find info/quotes o maternity health insurance?

We Answered:

They're pretty much all gone. Since the health reform act passed, most insurance companies have flat out stopped selling them.

So, you'd need to do research in YOUR STATE. Here in Texas, I know of one "plan" that still offers "maternity", but it's more of a discount plan. It has a 90 day wait before you can become pregnant, AND, it has a $5,000 deductible - you pay the first $5,000 before the insurance kicks in.

I don't think you'll find anything better than that, but talk to a local health insurance agent/broker in YOUR area, to see if they have any suggestions.

Jerome Said:

How much a a maternity health insurance? And what does it cover?

We Answered:

Maternity insurance may be available from the following sources:

Your job.
Your spouse's job
An individual policy you get on your own.
State-sponsored programs
Maternity Discount programs (not actually insurance)

If your employer offers a group insurance policy that covers maternity it will probably be your best option. Another option that may be equally as good is to get coverage through your spouse's employer.

You may have to wait until the next open enrollment period. However if you get married you may be able to get request a special open enrollment period that is triggered by your marriage.

You may find that a private insurance policy that you buy directly from an insurer will be an option. There may or may not be a waiting period. The private insurance policies that offer maternity insurance in Connecticut have no waiting period. You can't be pregnant on the effective date, but you can conceive right after that and have your pregnancy covered. This isn't true in every state.

There may be state-sponsored or county-sponsored programs that are available to you. Planned Parenthood is probably the best place to go to ask about these plans.

There are also discount plans available if none of the other options are viable. These plans are not insurance, but they can help you lower your hospital bill.

You can also pre pay your hospital bill and get a discount.

If you are unable to get maternity insurance t I would recommend that you have some kind of medical insurance in place that will handle the extra costs that might come if you have complications.

With many policies a normal maternity is not considered a sickness, but the complications of pregnancy are. This means that a policy that appears not to cover maternity will cover some of the cost associated with a "bad" pregnancy.

Having a health insurance policy in place (for either parent) will probably also mean that your child will be eligible for insurance from the moment he or she takes his or her first breath. Typically if you inform the insurance company within the first 30 days of your baby's birth and pay the additional premium, your child will be insured with no medical questions asked.

If your child needs an operation or expensive care this option will be a life saver (maybe literally).

Good luck!

What is a good affordable maternity health insurance in Kansas?

We Answered:

Try checking out Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Kansas. I had that for awhile when my job didn't offer decent insurance. I got basic coverage for around $120/month. I wasn't pregnant at the time though. If I remember right, it may have gone up a few hundred dollars. I know now that BCBS has new plans. Contact them or go online to check out their options.. Most doctors in the state honor BCBS and they're a reliable company. They'll also cover your preventative screenings such as your pap. Good luck.

Uninsuranced, looking for maternity health insurance where I can plan when to start a family?

We Answered:

Most private individual health plans have a window where they won’t fully cover your pregnancy. If you become part of a group health plan – like through you or your husband’s work – pregnancy cannot be considered a pre-existing condition. It’s different with individual plans, though. It varies, so the best way to find out is to talk with a local health insurance agent or the insurance company itself.

The first thing I’d do is write down a list of everything you want your health insurance to cover. Do some research online and talk with your doctor about the list to make sure you have everything listed. If you don’t have a doctor, try calling your local county health department. Ask for a family planning appointment when you call. Here are some things to look for in a health plan for pregnancy and maternity:

·Does it cover prenatal care?
·What prenatal tests are covered?
·What kind of delivery do you want to have and which types are covered?
·Is anesthesia covered?
·Does it cover nursery costs?
·Are sick and well-baby visits covered?
·How much are co-payments, if there are any?
·How much is the deductible?
·Ask to determine how much your bill would be if you used the insurance.

If you still have questions, try MostChoice.com. You can look at plans online and get in touch with locally licensed agents. There’s no cost or obligation to buy insurance. Just fill out a short form and wait for agents to call you. Tell them what you want, what your budget is, and let them do the legwork for you. Chances are, they’ve helped people in your situation before. One idea is find out which doctors and hospitals have the best track records with delivery and baby care and then find out what kind of insurance they take. Tell the agents and let them figure out the least expensive way to get the most coverage you can get.
