uk mental health helpline?We Answered:
try calling your nhs direct number, ask them ,they may either be able to talk to you them selves or have a duty psychiartist who can call you back or get in touch with your gp's surgerory who can get a duty psychiatrist to call you or may even advise you go to a&e if things are really bad and you are at risk of harming either yourself or anyone else.I have been to a&e many times before for feeling too low to cope, I was admitted once (I was asked first and I really was too scared to go home so was in full agreement with being admitted). I was able to sit down face-to-face and talk things through- I personally find this much much more helpful than over the phone- not that I dont use the phone- I do, but whan things get overly bad and I know a ohone call isnt going to help, I will go straight to a&e.
You do have to wait, but this is after the admitting nurse has seen you and the time you wait is usually the time it takes for them to get hold of the 24 hour duty psychiatrist.
There are some samaritan centres and mind centres you can visit too- check out thier websites as they may well be office hours only but its worth a try.
Try planning who you will speak to about this tomorrow also,- make sure theyre is someone there for you to talk to or it may feel never ending and that adds to the pressure and fear.
You could contact (the smallest to the biggest listed here)
Your friends and /or family (this may be impossible and is usually impossible but is worth a mention!)
Your G.P- who can see you on the day in most cases and will be able to either refer you to help or get incontact with other teams of people who can help you
Your Community Psychaitric Nusrse/Mental Health support worker/social worker if you have one
Your psychiatrist/psychotherapist/psychologis…
- or anyone else you feel would help you carry the depression.
Keep on moving and planning your next port of call, next foot of action- you will feel better, but it will take time.

(UK) What exactly is a Mental Health 'Crisis Team'?We Answered:
Mental health crisis teams exists to prevent psych hospital admission or re-admission wherever possible. The team will have mainly mental health nurses but also team psychiatrists, social workers and sometimes occupational therapists. They provide intense support, they visit a person up to around 6 times a day, if that's what is needed to keep them safe. The team I was seen by recently had in their mission statement that they aim to provide hope. They put in place longer term support like a stay in respite care, support workers, help you make adjustments to your home...anything that is going to help the individual's mental state and aid their recovery.
Crisis teams can provide support over the phone, if you and them feel that is all you need but they also provide home visits, or you can also sometimes meet them at their base. This tends to be encouraged when a person is starting to get better, to get them out of their own home.
You could look at it as "the hospital being brought to your home" ;) but the aim is that it won't have the disruption to your daily life and independance that an in-patient stay could.

how do you deal with it when you ring a helpline & they make things worse? We Answered:
First of all, forgive yourself for being human. ?I understand where the aggression is coming from. I can understand your loneliness, too... and that is not just because you are alone in your flat. Even when people are all around, when I am having a "mental health day" I feel all alone... and I feel aggressive towards everyone.
Being human, you need to know that you are loved and valuable. That is what you're looking for when you ring the help lines. Sometimes, the helpline people are looking for the same thing. They don't have anything to offer because their own hearts are so empty and needing of love. Maybe understanding how similar they are to you could help you to be aloof from them, also, and to keep trying until you find someone who has enough love in their hearts to share with you in a helpful way.
I think we all want to feel like we can help other people and that's what makes us feel worthwhile and valueable. I think that's why a lot of us spend time on Y!A.
You make a difference on Y!A. Keep up the great work! ?

how do i cope with these facts? We Answered:
Hello (Sybil?),I am not sure what to call you due to the fact that you are someone else everytime you post for a week or so... Are you afraid of people getting to know you or are you 'multiple personality disorder' rather than 'borderline'?
You have me very frustrated. I have always with everyone tried to help in the best way I can using the experiences that I have been through as guidance. I have experience in every area that you have referred to: even this latest attitude - 'self-pity' or 'who can I blame' bladda, bladda, bladda.
I came to all these questions at an earlier age than you, which is probably why I am a bit discouraged right now. I did not have the access of the internet, Yahoo! Answers, family members that weren't schizophrenic, alcoholic, bi-polar, or just plain goof-nuts.
Maybe had I had all of these things I wouldn't have been beaten in a marriage for ten years, or lost my children due to domestic violence, (still working on that one to get them back), or lived in my car for a year until I didn't sleep for a week out of pure fear and took out a street lamp that was 50 feet high... Being treated like **** happens, to everyone... unless they are born in a utopian like atmosphere. The closest I can think of that is the Amish people in some of the states.
I married a man who I was completely in love with, or so I thought - he broke my back, my heart, left with my baby-cousin, refused to help with any money for the children, I lost my house that my late father put a sizeable downpayment on, my son would tell me (at six years old) lie after lie to get me to let him stay home from school - how was I to know that this was a side-effect of the domestic violence (remember, I thought it was all my fault and I deserved to be beaten, psychologically abused, told I was **** and treated that way), my little beautiful boy was so afraid of daddy coming back to hurt mommy that he did anything he could to stay with me. Thus, state intervention without giving a **** about details, walked in my house and took my six year old boy and my just barely two year old girl.
That is just a very small portion of the last 6 years of my life, everything before that wasn't exactly leave it to beaver either.
One last item, embarrassing as it may be, it is important for me to talk about it, for the more you share the more you can minimize it.
A freind of my husband's wife informed my the my spouse would be over at their house cutting up and having a good time and bragged about how he would mick my diet cokes with 'liquid g', 'the date rape drug', 'rohypnol', ... whatthefuckever. He would then put me in the bathroom and videotape himself basically performing 'necrophelia'. I found a tape with about 1&1/2 seconds of me naked on the bathroom floor and confronted him with it. He said he erased everything. I told him that I even showed his freind's wife and after hearing it from her he looked like he was going to throw up.
Anyway, all of this is to let you know that you can't keep fixing the blame, you have to start fixing the problem. If you have any thoughts of this happening in a day or two you are severely misguided. STOP thinking about yesterday. STOP worrying about tomorrow.
If you don't YOU WILL CONTINUE TO **** ALL OVER TODAY!

Can you refuse emergency treatment off a helpline if they do it without your permission? We Answered:
The police and ambulance have a duty of care over you. If they think you are a risk to yourself and you are not of sound mind you can be sectioned for your own safety.
