Jimmy Said:

Does anyone know of information about the long list of prescriptions Melissa Huckaby had?

We Answered:

No, are you looking to be referred to her doctor?
Try asking her lawyer or the court.

Leslie Said:

history of mental health services?

We Answered:

Do you mean treatments they used to use historically like before medication? If so then just go to the library or search on google. There are a few things that they used to use such as the labotomy which is still used in extreme cases. THough the technique has changed from then and now. Also ECT (shock therapy) was used then and now but is much better now and is seen to show some initial improvements. From way back though they would also chain people to walls, wrap them in wet sheets after blasting them with water and spin them round in chairs really fast so they couldnt move. Try wikipedia for some general ideas or search a search engine for historical treatments.

How to correct wrong information about mental health, that could have catastrophic effects?

We Answered:

Hello there! Wow! How can someone who has taken an oath to first do no harm behave like this! Ok...The first thing that I would do is get notes from your psychiatrist stating that you are doing very well and your state of mind off of the meds is fine. The second and probably the most important is get another Obstetrician. Her behavior is unacceptable. It is not her god given right to see you through your pregnancy and delivery. This is a privilege. Do not forget that she works for YOU. Clearly this woman can have a major impact on your life. You can stop this. If you get the notes from your Psychiatrist and begin with a new Obstetrician, you should be just fine. The other thing that I would do is, when you see your Psychiatrist again, have this Obstetrician's behavior documented in the notes. This will help a great deal. I am so very sorry that you are going through this. Do not worry though. Everything will work out. Your baby will not be taken from you. You just get as much documentation as possible and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. I hope that somehow this has been helpful. Best of luck to you and CONGRATULATIONS!

Are juvenile mental health services lacking in substance?

We Answered:

yes tell me about it, I've been here, emergency help for child psychiatric problems is not available it seems. However much distress a child is in they don't want to send anyone out unless there is a physical injury.

Where can you find mental health provisions in the Healthcare Reform Act?

We Answered:

Read the bill or search the Open Congress site. It is also covered on the TriCare site.
It is a long read, and it really is not finished, yet. I mean look at Social Security, it was made into a Law 40 years ago or more and has undergone thousands of changes since.
That last link has a .pdf on that exact issue.

What are Mental Health Services?

We Answered:

First of all, it’s great that you took the first step and talked with a doctor about your depression and thoughts of harming yourself. It can be hard to take that step, but once you do you will find access to the help you need to improve your life.

Did you go see your family physician? Family doctors do not specialize in mental health services and this is why he gave you referrals. Mental health services include support and treatment to individuals who are suffering from a mental health issue. Your doctor was probably referencing the referrals he gave your mom for a psychiatrist/psychologist. The next step is likely a mental health evaluation, where you can receive an accurate diagnosis of depression. From there the psych will work with you on what the best treatment plan for you will be. This may include medications and psychotherapy.

If you have additional question you can ask your family doctor or you can make a list of questions for the psychiatrist/psychologist that you will be seeing.

If you have additional questions or need someone to talk with you can call us at the Boys Town National Hotline. We have counselors available 24/7 to off support, guidance, and referrals in your area.
