Mental Health Insurance

Terri Said:

How much would mental health insurance cost for a fulltime college student?

We Answered:

Hey Greg. The first thing is knowing if the college or university that you are going to attend has counseling services provided. They usually offer free services to students, but this isn't always the case. I personally used to counsel for students at a local four-year university and was free of service as long as they were students or faculty members. If not, then the VA should offer free services for any individual and/or family members who have served in any service. Try this website below and see if it helps. Best of luck and thanks for all that you have done!

I'm looking for a good mental health insurance provider?

We Answered:

I wouldn't recommend Cigna. My dad's job has it and I'm covered under it. There were maybe 20 psychiatrist in the are and 95% aren't taking new patients. It's been really hard to find someone in network, to the point where I couldn't see someone when I really needed to. It might just be where I live [Northern Va] but I'm not happy with it at all. Plus if you get hospitalized, the only covered 1/3 of the bill. So now I have to pay $3, 000+ [for a 2 day stay!] because the meds made me crazy. Don't mean to let loose but it's been one thing after another for me. Good luck finding one!

Aetna use to be good, thats what I had before. Maybe look into them.
