Americas health care system is pathetic. We spend twice that of any other rich country and our health statistics are half as good. The only people that are happy with the status quo are those that are making millions off of it and those that they have convinced that a government plan would ruin healthcare. It would really only ruin it for them and thats what they are worried about.

Wake up folks beaurocrats have been between you and your doctor for a long time, they are called insurance companies. Their analysts - not doctors - have set up schedules in every hospital in the country, doctors do not make decisions they follow HMO protocol. Furthermore these people are motivated by profit alone, patient care barely enters the picture.

A universsal health care system would not deny coverage to certain people because they are unprofitable, patient care - a cause - would be the mission not profit. How could you be opposed to this?

And to those that say government screws everything up, prove it. Name one industry that government is involved in that they are not competitive. Its a myth perpetuated by those who desire profit.

There are several jobs in public hospitals that are related to cancer.
There are jobs in regional and state cancer registries.

You are right to question this. I work in health care admin and over the years I have seen the people who rise to the top of the $$$ game have an advanced degree associated with a license (health care professional). While the person may not need a medical license to hold the high level job, the medical degree opened the door for the person to get to the podium.

There are lots of people who have been successful in public health - but their names are not household names - or are not even recorded.

those whose names are known are usually associated with a lab science where they discovered a process to identify a problem or possible treatment. They aren't paid the big bucks - but loved what they did.

If you can find a $100,000 job in public health, it almost always has an MD after the name, or it is a person who worked 30 years to get there.

The major employers of people with public health degrees are government - or some private reseach places. but they are mainly interested in folks with laboratory skills - and that's not the big bucks end either. Anyone can start their own business - bid on contracts to develop a new this or that - but credibility comes with degrees.

Public health there are jobs in all over the place. There are jobs as nurses, as researchers, as educators etc. They also do the innoculations for trips and other activities as well.

The NHS (National Health Service) is the body to apply to in Britain. The first site below has a section on 'Jobs Applying from outside the UK' and a search page which brought up 18 vacancies in epidemiology for Britain.

The Health Service Executive (HSE) has full operational responsibility for running Ireland’s national health and personal social services. A search for jobs in epidemiology brought up no results.
