Medical billing and coding are great career fields to get into now. Starting a home medical billing business will be challenging, but the income can be incredible.

You chose a career that is expected to need more and more people through the next few years.

Quality training is important.

Working in a doctor's office starting out w/o any certification will probably net you between $12-$15 per hour. If you go for certification, you could make more. Working at home and soliciting your own clients is the way to make VERY good money especially if you offer both coding and billing services.

Have you considered also learning medical transcription? This would give you even more services to offer a doctor. You could transcribe the report, then code it, then bill it. : )

It is a very lucrative career choice. I've been a recruiter in the medical industry for 12 years and this is one of the most needed careers out there today. The reason being that the hospitals and other healthcare facilities don't receive reimbursement from medicare and medicaid if they don't have enough coders to process and submit their bills to the gov't and health insurance companies. Go for it and good luck!
