Career Medical Transcriptionist

Opinions Please... Career as Medical Transcriptionist waisting my Bachelors in Business?

We Answered:

A degree is never a waste of time. It shows you have a commitment to finishing the job--whether it's getting an education or staying at a job. People realize and admire that. So don't worry about that anymore. Some medical transcription companies pay fairly well--or do after you've been there for a while. Don't underestimate the savings you'll enjoy not spending money on gas and business clothes. it's like an automatic pay raise even if you're not making a ton of money right off the bat. Good Luck!

Help! How good of a career is being a medical transcriptionist?

We Answered:

I was a medical transcriptionist working from home for 13 years.

Many transcriptionists get their training through a course of study while others carry their medical terminology knowledge with them from other health related fields. You would need to get the terminology down, and then get started. Many companies want experience so there's a catch-22. However, doctors and hospitals may be hiring, and after a time you can work from home as many transcriptionists do.

There's some excellent information for anyone considering a career in this field in the website listed below. No affiliation with any school or products, just good info, including real job listings in coding, billing, and transcription.
They also have free listings in their directory for transcriptionists.
