Career Options For Non Medical Students

Christy Said:

Taking a leave from graduate school to figure out what I want to do... Good idea?

We Answered:

How about applying to med schools, PA schools and dental schools and seeing what happens? There is time between now and May 15. Maybe by then you will have a clearer idea of what you want and applying will give you more options. If you don't get in, no big loss, you can work on improving your application for the following year once you know what you want.

In the meantime, why not finish out your year and don't announce that you're leaving before you have to. (Dec. 4 is the deadline for leaving at the end of this semester, I assume?) It might not be what you want to do, but it is an income.

In many programs, if you leave a PhD early but have done all the work for a masters degree, you can still walk out with one if you fill out the paperwork and pay a small fee. Is that not an option where you are? I know it might sound dishonest since masters-only students usually have to pay tuition, but if you're really not sure, it's not that dishonest or unusual. Who knows, you might discover something interesting and grow to like research more than you thought you would, or if not, you get your masters without a load of debt.

HOROSCOPE -There are many options before me as I am a cbse science student of class 12?

Any career in army including AFMC, studies in IIT/medical - not suitable. IAS, MBA better.
Remember you can always succeed in whatever you like best – i.e. economy and biology. Focus with all your might. As regards difficult time with your dad, tension and fears etc. note that you are in the sade sati right now, and all these adversities will turn to your favour later benefiting you in the long run, as soon as sade sati is over. Also, please rest assured that you are going to be a meteoric success before your dad in not distant future. In fact, your dad will have a turn around and everything will be better than ever before. God bless you!

Give custody to father to pursue school?

We Answered:

You need to take a long, hard look at your situation. It's definitely apperent that you love your son, considering you have out so much aside already for him. You need to decide if it is more importent for you to get this degree, and be done with it, or wait until he is older school age and go then. No one on this website can tell you what's best for you and your son. You need to decide what is in the best interest of you, your son, and your career.

Getting a student loan with BAD credit, but no prior student loan defaults?

We Answered:

One of the best, but most underappreciated things about the federal student aid system is the Stafford loan program. Too many students are quick to reject the Stafford as having any real "value", because they're only interested in finding out about how they can get someone else to pay for their education. When you tell them that no one else is going to buy them a degree, but that there's a great student loan program available to them - well, that's not really what they want to hear about. "You don't understand," they say, "I don't want to have to pay this money back."

Well - in your case, I think you'll find the Stafford loan program useful, because financial aid applicants can qualify for a Stafford loan without a credit check and without a cosigner. As you already know, this is quite a difference from the private educational loans.

As long as you are not currently in default on a previous federal student loan -- or, unless you owe money for a financial aid overpayment, you will be eligible to borrow from the Stafford lending program, regardless of your credit problems.

If you'll be returning to school this spring, now is the time to complete the FAFSA application - that will get you all set up for financial aid for the spring. Don't forget - you have to be registered for a degree program at a institution that participates in the federal student aid system - and you have to have "full" acceptance as a "regular" student.

Choose your school wisely, with a real eye on expense, because the bad credit history IS going to make it nearly impossible to find supplementary funds in the form of a private educational loan. Under the best of circumstances, few private loans are available to applicants with poor credit, but during the current banking crisis, I'd be shocked if you could find a legitimate lender who would make you a student loan.

Good luck to you!
