Careers In Healthcare

Scott Said:

which healthcare careers offer good work hours?

We Answered:

I just have to say that it will be virtually impossible for you to attain a master's degree in nursing without working as a nurse first.

Most graduate programs will not accept a nurse who does not have experience working as a RN for at least a couple of years.

And not all RN jobs have horrible hours. Clinic positions are M-F, 8-5 kinds of jobs, with occasional weekends if the clinic is open then. But they can be a boring job, and they don't pay as well as hospitals. Hospital jobs might have rotating shifts, every other or every third weekend, but if there is a certain schedule you don't want to work, you just don't apply for that job posting. If you know you don't want to work nights, don't accept a job that expects you to work them. But working straight day shifts is usually not an option in hospital settings until you have years worth of seniority. Job postings are almost always rotating schedules, day/evenings, evening/night, day/night. Some places will tell you they only give you a certain number of off shifts, others cannot make any promises and it could be a 50/50 split between the two shifts.

Once you earn your master's degree, it depends on what you get your master's for. If you become a Nurse Practitioner, you might have work in a clinic with set hours, or you might have to take call shifts if you round on patients at a hospital, which means nights and weekends. If you're a Nurse Educator, teaching nursing school or employed at a hospital as a trainer, it will be all day work.

Which healthcare careers require a Master's degree?

We Answered:

Nurse practitioners and physicians assistants are masters programs. However, you can't enter them without some prerequisite courses.

Wendy Said:

Can you suggest to me some careers in healthcare?

We Answered:

Psychology, physiotherapy math is fairly basic (I think), dunno what else lol. Anybody can be good at maths, get a tutor and become well acquainted with the foundations of your topics, then learning it will become very easy for you =]
But yeh any field will require some level of math, nothing extreme though.

What are some good careers in healthcare?

Sadly I would rethink that. With Mr. Obama pushing national health care, you will only be allowed to make so much. It will be rationed so it just isn't what it used to be. I am a nurse and honestly I am thinking of leaving. But if you still want to pursue it I would get my CNA and do home health. Some places you can be paid $17 an hr.
