Careers In Medicine

Travis Said:

what careers in medicine/biology are their where you dont have to give shots to people?

We Answered:

You can study biology or medicine and not be a clinician, but go into research. If you are a good artist, you can be a medical illustrator. You can go into radiology, optometry, anatomy, and many other fields withoutseeing patients and/or giving shots.

Any information on Natural Medicine careers? Ten points best answer!?

We Answered:

We'll I'm an Osteopath and I help a lot of people. My job doesn't involve blood or needles.
You have to train for 4 or 5 years (outside the US) and get a good grounding in A&P, Neurophysiology biochemistry, Orthopaedics, Manual techniques for testing mobility and treatment of the musculoskeletal system, clinical medicine, clinical testing of body systems, pathophysiology and less so in paediatrics and involuntary motion techniques.
Post grad you can go on to develope these areas.
I really like my job as it is much more than just treatment of musculo-skeletal conditions and I find i incredibly rewarding.
You can also treat babies, and internal organs to a limited degree. The whole concept is based on assisting Nature and helping the body to heal itself.
In Australasia you can do an undergrad degree in health science which leads to a post grad in Osteopathy (although the only students enrolled on the first course who don't go onto osteopathy MSc eith fail or drop out). In the UK you do an undergrad in Osteopathy and get awarded Bost, Bost med or BSc although some institutions are going straight through to MSc over 5 years.
The US is different and Osteopathy is a paralel to medicine with Osteopathic technique and philosophy taught on the side. The system is post grad just like medicine and just like medicne over 90% don't practice osteopathy when they graduate.

Feel free to e-mail me if you want more information.

You may also want to look at Herbalism, chiropractic or naturopathy. These all have something in common with conventional medicine (although they hate to admit it) Homeopathy or chinese medicine could also be a considered although you will really struggle as these medical systems are very at odds with conventional medicine and you may become very ostracised by your equivalent peers.

Good Luck

Javier Said:

what careers in medicine are the most flexible?

We Answered:

Consider pharmacy. As of today you can pick and choose hours and yoru schedule, work full or part time, or just fill in as your financial situation allows. The money is good, the work very challenging (if you don't do retail pharmacy) and your colleagues are generally good to work with.

The medical careers and occupations list at Education-Portal.com (URL --link-- is below under sources) is one of the most thorough I've seen. The description of each occupation is excellent.
