Choosing A Career In The Medical Field

Charlotte Said:

Choosing a career in the medical field? I don't want to be a nurse, though.?

We Answered:

I was in the same boat. I eventually chose to get a BA in radiation. Im going to be a radiation therapist which is a person who treats cancer patients with radiation. Its 3 years of school, 2 years of clinicals, the pay is GRRRRREAT! Its a highly competitive field which I personally believe makes One work harder. Ya know? I'm hopefully starting clinicals this july and Im very excited. Good luck

Need Help With Choosing a Career in the Medical Field?

Hmm, an often under-appreciated skill is conducting autopsies. It sounds gross, but is actually really really important.

It is often used for legal and medical purposes, to determine the cause of death. For example, when my grandfather died, the insurance company ordered an autopsy as hundreds of thousands of dollars hinged on whether he had a heart attack that led to a car crash, or if he had a car crash that led to a heart attack. It is also used to check for medical errors (this was on Scrubs recently, where the autopsy showed that a doctor had been directly responsible for a patient's death).

And, believe it or not, autopsies are common in veterinary medicine as well. Sooo, as long as dead things truly do not creep you out, it can be a really important career.
