Emergency Medical Technician Career
Thomas Said:
Which career path do you think is better? We Answered:
As far as career opportunities, I think being an EMT would be better. I have a couple of friends who started out as EMTs. They both ended up starting their own businesses certifying others for various first aid certifications. You might be surprised at the number of people that have to get certified in one area or another.Frank Said:
Emergency Medical Technician(:?We Answered:
you can be an EMT in 3-4 months... you can probably do a program while in high school during the summer time. EMT-B is basic life support training. it is a level up from a cpr card. A paramedic is alot more training, they do advanced life support traiining and have alot more knowledge when it comes to medicine.you dont have to take any classes in high school.
basically if you want to do emergency medicine be a PA or MD, and to be either you have to take science prereqs to get into a grad school after your bachelors degree...
There are degrees in disaster management which revolve around emergency medical services.
no there is no phD in EMT or paramedic. However nothing is stopping you from going to a 4 year university and after doing a phD in something like disaster management.

EMS Career seeking high school student? We Answered:
If you plan on earning an Associate Degree as a Paramedic, you will need Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, College-level Algebra, Psychology, and Sociology as your main math/science prerequisites once you are in college. To take those classes at the high school level ( the ones that are available at your school) will be a benefit to you once you are in college. If you can take dual-credit classes now or your senior year at a nearby community college, you'll have an even bigger advantage of getting a head start on your career....but, since you've already taken the 1st Responder course, you probably knew that already ;)Best wishes in your career goals!
