Entry Level Medical Careers

Richard Said:

If I do a Bachelors in Medical Neuroscience, do you think I will have a good chance of entry level medicine?

We Answered:

Yes, that's an ideal pre-grad-school curriculum. Make sure your grades are excellent, especially in key subjects (biology, chemistry, math). Competition is FIERCE to get into med school. Average grades won't even begin to cut it.

My bf's daughter is in pre-med right now, struggling with biology that she has not done well in. Both parents told her to take the EASIEST biology to start with ("biology for poets is actually the offering) and do NOT skip semesters as you travel up the line as you lose your sense of continuity with these sciences. Well, she did it "her" way, and now will not make the cut to med school because her GPA was so dragged down, having to repeat, and not doing well in the repeats, and she did not get the chem and biology she needs to finish with this semester in order to make the cut for a good med school.

So take a lesson from the people who are doing it NOW. Make it your business to have TOP GPA to position yourself with options. It really is cutthroat competition - even among the top 10%ers.

And you can get part time work with EMS and volunteer work, part-time lab assistant work - all to look good against your field of study.

Vincent Said:

Which career is easier to get an entry level job, medical coding or medical transcription?

We Answered:

There are many similarities between the two. The biggest difference is that there are probably more opportunities in coding where the employer is willing to provide training to qualified individuals. Another difference is that most coding jobs prefer a credential (CCS), where medical transcription does not.

For both, it's important to be selective about the school where you get training and education because it will affect the ability to get a job. The length of education is approximately the same (18 months to 2 years).

At this time, coding jobs pay better and there is more of a demand. Whether or not that will continue as records are digitized and coding is easier to outsource overseas will remain to be seen.

Entry Level Careers in Intelligence Analysis?

We Answered:

Apply anyway, CIA, NSA etc. If you were a UK national, MI6 would probably take you on as it says on their website that they are looking for Mandarin speakers (among many other languages).

Just go for, don't do the military route. I'm sure in the CIA you gotta start some where
