Entry Level Medical Jobs

Tammy Said:

How diffucult is it to find an entry-level medical transcription job after completeing a certificate program?

We Answered:

That's true, being a good transcriptionist takes years of experience and of course places would rather hire someone with experience if they can. It just depends on where you live and what the job market is like there. I was able to get hired for transcription before I was even finished with college in a p.r.n. (as needed) position, which developed to part-time, which developed into a full-time job at a different place. You just have to get your foot in the door wherever you can. If that means filing in the medical records department for awhile, then go file and work your way up. If you have no experience in healthcare whatsoever, that will make it even harder to get a job. Try to get into it in some way!

What's an entry level medical job? How do I get in?

We Answered:

You may want to try filing or data entry in a medical office or hospital. I understand your frustration though.

Theresa Said:

Where can I find entry level jobs in medical writing?

We Answered:

Try a temp agency like Kelly Girls or Manpower. Or you can look in the phone book for other agencies in your area.
If you take a temporary job you will get some experience and be able to move on to another job. If it is a temp to perm job and the company likes your work after you fill the requirements that the temp agency and the company have agreed on you will be hired full time.

Entry-level medical jobs?

We Answered:

Dental assisting is the only medical related job I can think of that allow on the job training. However most dentists want to hire educated/ certified assistants only.
I suggest applying to orthodontist offices as a ortho assistant.

But there are medical programs that require slight education like surgical technology (1 year program). Surg techs work in hospitals in the operating rooms helping surgeons.
Also you can train to be a dental assistant (2 year degree). Look at the local community colleges list of degree and certificate programs.
