Future Medical Careers
Matthew Said:
Question about future career in the medical field? We Answered:
This probably won't help you much but I know how difficult it is to try to find where you might fit in the medical field...if that makes sense.-Concerning money, it depends on where you want to go and how to want to utilize your degree...it really does make a difference between different hospitals, or if your a military GP, or some other places.
-I would go for becoming an M.D despite the extreme competition...usually 50,000 applicant for 20,000 positions.
-Becoming a dentist is just as difficult....in a sense...but I find it to be one of the most tediously boring jobs ever.
-It really comes down to what you feel like spending 40 years or so of your life doing though.
In the end, I wish you the best of luck!

The future for medical careers? We Answered:
The day that medical care will be all technology and robots is far far away. While there are some robots used in surgery, I just don't see a day in any of our lifetimes where you come in with Strep Throat, a robot takes a throat culture, you fill out your symptoms on a computer screen, and the computer spits out an Amoxicillin rx. That's serious T-1000 and Blade Runner shi7.In robot aided surgeries, the key word is AIDED. The surgeon is still guiding the robot.
Humans are still needed to visualize a patient, conduct hands-on exams, and provide sympathy/empathy.
If you fear technology, then progressive medicine will not be a good field for you. Small town stuff may be ok, but the Obama health care act is going to require continuity of care to get funding, and part of that is computerized and nationalized records. More and more hospitals and offices are virtually paperless in the treatment of patients. Dictations are often done with voice recognition software and the records are put directly into computerized medical records. Medical records can be accessed via tablet computers and even iPads and carried into the exam room instead of a 10lb stack of written records. Physicians already use computerized databases to help with writing proper dosage on an Rx and to help with diagnoses of difficult conditions.
