Growing Careers In The Medical Field

Sarah Said:

medical careers?

We Answered:

Pursue the dream of your heart. You may have to work harder than some, but don't let that stop you. I think it's very reasonable.

Additionally, down the road, if you feel the academics are too difficult for you, you can always scale down your goal to being a nurse, Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, etc. Even an ultrasound tech makes good money.

The medical field is booming and it's a great career choice.

You might also want to consider learning medical transcription. The training is vocational in nature and takes about 6 months to a year. However, this would give you a good income to help you through school. MTs work at home typing doctors dictation.

Best wishes to you!

Teacher mentioned a career in medical field, although what should I be?

Urg, spammers are out tonight. Seems they come online at night when they think the Mods have gone to bed.

It's great that you're thinking about Medical School so early. You should take (as soon as possible) Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

You can postpone taking them until about your 2nd year of University, but you'll need to write the MCAT (Medical Colleges Admissions Test) in your 3rd year, and it covers Biology, Organic and Inorganic Chemistry, and Physics.

As far as what you major in, it's up to you. You should pick something you're passionate in, because Medical Schools look for passion. They don't care if you took Biochem or Classical History, as long as you have the prerequisites (listed in my first source), and a good GPA.

As for what medical career you'd like, the possibilities are endless.

If you don't like death and dying, I'd suggest something like Dermatology, Family Medicine, or Radiology (an often overlooked specialty).

You should look into volunteering at a hospital or medical clinic. The two reasons people don't get into Medical School is a low GPA/MCAT, or little extra-curriculars. The earlier you get on it the better!

As for colleges you want to attend, there really isn't a "bad" Medical School. Unlike Law Schools, the Medical Schools are so tightly regulated and controlled, your degree will be worth gold no matter where you go.

Good luck!

what's a good career in the medical field for a male. anything other than doctor?

We Answered:

Oh man, this is a no-brainer. There's plenty of occupations in the medical field. Look into ones in the Allied health professions. Radiography, Ultra-Sound, MRI, CT, Pharmacists, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioner, I could go on & on. Many public colleges have waiting lists so get on with it, and private schools are on the expensive side but dont rule them out. I just got accepted into radiography last week, so Im really happy and know ill be fianancially set, plus Ill be able to travel, because the demand overseas is way more than here.
