Travis Said:

what can i major in???

We Answered:

Try not to worry, this happens...a lot. The best thing to do is to try a couple classes. You know that famous factoid 'the average student changes their major 3 times,' well it's true. You'll find out that maybe something you thought you liked was you don't and something you never even considered to be a new passion.

Psychology tends to be placed in a Liberal Art category and so you'll need more social sciences and English for that major.

As Math, Chemistry, and Physics are pretty much a requirement for any science related field, you will end up needing them if you choose to go in this direction. Most schools offer free tutoring for these course, you just have to sign up for, and show up. Chem and Phys homework will deal with lots of math, double so for Physics.

Find out when you school requires you, if at all, to declare a major. It can be changed but the sooner you settle on something the sooner you can graduate. So start working on your schools core curriculum which you have to take no matter what major, and add some Intro/101 courses of some subjects you like to see if you really like them. Or look for a free course online to see what you would be learning.

I used princetonreview.com a lot to look into different majors and careers. It has information on typical courses of study for majors. For careers it has information like salary, a day in the life, job satisfaction, and recommended majors for that career.

MIT has free online course material so you can explore furture
http://ocw.mit.edu

Itunes also has free lectures from different colleges, from many different classes.

These are great to explore a course without having to pay all the expenses.

Music is a great hobby to be passionate about, but a never a major.

I went from Sociology to Political Science to Secondary Education in Political Science to finally settling on Biotechnology as a major.

If 30 million Americans get Healthcare, which jobs would be in high demand?

We Answered:

medical technology/clinical laboratory science

These are the people that work in hospital laboratories. More people getting healthcare= more people needing tests done.

This is my degree, and we were already in demand. If national healthcare passes, we'll need even MORE med techs.

Need a career that is in demand?

We Answered:

Environmental sciences and technology seem to be on the rise.

If you live in the south, they are always in need for HVAC folks.

You could also check into Fiber Optics and Cable positions.

Oscar Said:

What areas of healthcare are most in demand?

We Answered:

I keep hearing Nurses are in GREAT demand, which is why I am choosing to enter this field. The pay is great, and there are so many options for scheduling shifts. Plus, the world will always need healthcare professionals. You only need an Associate degree in Science and to pass the NCLEX exam. If you choose, you could move onto a BS in Nursing, but it is not neccessary. The stress level depends on which type of nursing you do (ER vs Maternity, etc). Good luck with finding what you are looking for!!

Bradley Said:

what are some in demand career fields?

We Answered:

Before looking at in demand career fields I suggest that you go to your local community college and look into taking a career aptitude test such as Myers-Briggs. This test or others like it place you in one of 16 personalty groups. Once placed in a group you are given a list of career fields that other people who are in your group have chosen to do for a career. I used this test to help me determine if I was in the right field for me and it turns out I was. You don't want to be an accountant if being a hotel manager is better suited to who you are. Plus you don't want to waist years of school or training only to find that after you get into the job it is so not you. Many corporations have job shadowing programs that will allow you to see what people in that field actually do and you get to tag along for a few days to see if it is something you would be interested in. So sit down figure out what things you see on T.V. interest you then find out who actually teaches this stuff or the company that does the job. then do a web search to find the Companies and talk to their HR department. Good Luck.
