Glenda Said:

Can you become from nurse to doctor?

We Answered:

In the US, yes, you have to apply to med school and take all the pre-reqs (nursing school does not fulfill all of them) and the MCAT exams, just like anyone. Nursing does not give you any credit in med school. So that is any number of years getting the pre-reqs, then 4 years med school, then residency. Say 4 years internal med + fellowhsip 3 years for neurologist and endocrinologist sub-specialty; psych 5 years.

Don't know the UK system.

Heidi Said:

How do I become a doctor in Ireland?

We Answered:

There are graduate entry programmes in medicine now, meaning that you can get another degree first and then get into medicine. I'm not sure how many colleges offer this though. Check the CAO website, or if your school has a career guidance teacher they might know. I also know a person who did a science degree first, and then did some interviews for colleges in England and Scotland and was accepted into medicine there.

Judith Said:

Why did you become a doctor?

We Answered:

You're supposed to have your own answer for that question. If you ask others this question, then you're not really being true to your reasoning for wanting to be a doctor.

In short, I'm going to be a physician because I want the intellectual challenge and the lifetime of non-stop medical education. I love science, and I want to combine that with helping others and making a difference in the world.

2-3 Years College - Science and Mathematical Subjects

5-6 Years Medical School
(Or You Can Do A Degree In Any Science Course and Then Study Medicine For 4 Years)

---This Is When You Graduate As A Doctor---

1 Year Pre-Registration

---If You Pass This You Are A Qualified Doctor Able To Practice Medicine On Your Own---

2 Years General Hospital Work (You Have To Work In Every Department Once)

---If You Pass This You Can Specialise In A Region Of Medicine---

4 - 5 Years In Chosen Speciality (Whether Its Surgical or Medical)

---If You Pass Board Written Exams You Become A Specialist In This Area, This Now Means You Are A Specialist Doctor, or If You Chose Surgery, You Are Now A Surgeon Capable Of Conducting Surgeries On Your Own---

After A Few Years You May Apply For A Consultancy Position and Become A Consultant.

Altogether It Takes = 13/14/15 Years To Become A Consultant, About 7 Years To Become A Doctor and About8-10 To Become A Surgeon.

how can i get into med school to become doctor?

Good for you! The field of medicine is challenging and rewarding. As for your questions, you will have to graduate with a bachelor's degree. There are specific college classes that you need to take, like biology, calculus, and chemistry, but you do not need to major in a science.

Medical schools are fairly expensive, generally running between $20,000 and $45,000 per year. Most people take out student loans to cover the cost of tuition or apply for scholarship programs.

One of the best parts of becoming a doctor is the ability to tailor your practice to your specific likes. There certainly is a spectrum of fields in medicine based on how many surgical procedures you want to do. On one end of the spectrum, you have Psychiatry, which is based almost entirely on the patient interview. On the other end is Pathology, which has little patient contact. Fields in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine have fewer surgical procedures than Surgical fields.

Again, medical school is expensive and one of the biggest challenges for medical students is dealing with debt. It is not unusual for a student to graduate from medical school with over $100,000 in debt. I would not let that dissuade you from pursuing a career in medicine, however. At the end of the day, all doctors graduate with some debt, but everyone eventually pays it off, and they are left with an exciting and rewarding career.
