List Of Medical Careers Salaries

Jeff Said:

I want to find a career by next semester?

We Answered:

hmmm...let's see:

Prostitute--you're definitely around people and helping them;
Drug dealer--same as above, but without all the pesky, physical contact.

Seriously...at 19, you have NOOOOO clue (as evidenced by you having to ask this question) as to what "career" you should pursue...so, continue taking a wide variety of classes that expose you to a lot of disciplines. You probably have some time before declaring a major anyway.

You could also start looking in to part-time jobs or summer internships in some fields that may interest you and actually get in to the work place to see if that field may be worth further exploration.

You're 19...no need to rush. Statistically speaking, you'll change jobs like 11 times in your professional life and change "careers" something like 3 times. Just relax and explore!!

Judith Said:

What all careers can I pursue with a degree in Chemistry?

We Answered:

I don't know job titles, descriptions or salaries.

Industrial -- chemicals are used throughout. People are needed to discover new processes and to make safe existing ones. Synthetic textiles, alloys, plastics, etc.

Medical -- research and development. How do you think all those drugs develop in the first place?

Ecological -- research and development, again. New methods of pest control that pose no hazards, ways to reverse chemical damage already done, environmental impact studies.

You may want to look into adding biology as a minor. Having both opens more options in the areas of medical and ecological -- research and development of ways to clean up oil spills to use a current example. I know there's been research in using bacteria to "eat" the spilled oil contaminants without becoming a threat themselves.

Bioinformatics or Biomedical engineering?

We Answered:

From my experience of bioinformatics it's not particularly interesting. I only did a few classes on it last year though, if you do it in depth it could be much better. I don't think it involves much maths at all to be honest.

My housemate is studying biomedical engineering and she seems to really like it. You study some biology, particularly the brain and nervous system- and there's some advanced mathematics in it. If you like physics as well as maths and biology it would be a good choice.

I think there's probably more chance of getting a bioinformatics job but in my opinion an engineering job would be more varied and interesting.

Generally a science starting salary in the UK (where I live) is about £20,000. I don't know where you're from but it would probably be the equivalent or higher as the UK doesn't pay scientists very much at all compared to other places.
