Jennifer Said:

I need to talk to a Medical Administrative Assistant.?

We Answered:

I'm not a medical administrative assistant, but if one doesn't have many responses, here is a website for general information about administrative assistant: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'administrative assistants and secretaries' or such.

Please forgo those private $$ schools and instead opt for the more affordable county vo-tech school or community college as long as it's accredited within the industry. Wishing you the best of luck in the future!

Elmer Said:

What do I need to become a Medical Administrative Assistant.?

We Answered:

I teach Medical Administrative Assisting. You do not need a degree, although you could earn an Associate of Arts degree.

Usually you will want to complete some sort of training program. This will earn you a certificate of completion. However you ARE NOT certified. You would need to take a test in order to become certified. One is offered through the American Medical Assistants Association.

There are many programs out there. The most economical options would be your local junior college (you can earn a degree there), adult schools and ROP (regional occupational training programs). The private schools are the most expensive and some of them do offer the degree. If given the choice complete the certificate first so you can work as you go on and earn your degree.

It is best if you can find a program that offers an externship. If so, great. If not make sure you look for your job WHILE you are school. My experience has been that students who do not break into their new career while they are still in school often don't get a job once they graduate. You want to look while you have the momentum of school with you. Don't just take the summer off after you complete your training and then look.

Before you begin any program talk to local employers and find out which programs they prefer. Some of them won't hire graduates of certain schools.

How much does an Medical Administrative Assistant make?

We Answered:

The job that you're referring to is basically a medical office assistant or "specialist" or even an "administrative assistant" :)

For general career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'secretaries and administrative assistants', 'medical assistants' or such.

Please be aware, however, that there are ** NOT ** supposed to be too many jobs for MAs (or medical billers or coders) despite what those private overly priced For-profit schools say.

If you're still interested in training, please only consider the more affordable local Community College (or County Vocational school).
