My fiance, Kathy Bonewit-West publishes a textbook that is used for medical assistants and is working on a combined administrative book and medical assistance book with another author. She just retired from teaching after 33 years and I watch her work on her new book each day so yes, I will tell you that you need to know all the information in any of the textbooks in order to do your job properly. If not, you would look kind of silly when someone like a doctor or nurse asks you a question. It is really not as hard as it seems though. A lot of the terms are related to each other and through hard work, practice, and actual on the job training, you will do just fine. Think of it this way. There are thousands of offices around the country filled with tons of hardworking professional people. Are they any smarter than you? No, so tackle each word at a time, study it in its context and beforey you know it, you will have a good job. Good luck.

If you enjoy doing clinicals such as providing direct patient care then gof or LPN. But if you prefer doing the business side of healthcare or paperworks then go for administrative.
