Medical Assistance Career

Joseph Said:

what career is better a Medical Assistance or an RN?

We Answered:

A Medical Assistant is trained to work in a physician's office or clinic setting. They start off around $10 an hour and top off around $16-17, with many years experience. You don't have much flexibility in hours, so if you have children or plan on having children, figure in the cost of day care.

An RN starts at OVER $23 an hour and after a few years, makes around $35-40+ an hour. They can work in any area of specialty in a hospital, from Emergency to OB, Critical Care to the Operating Rooms, Pediatrics to Oncology. They can advance to management (with a BSN and most often with a Masters), they can become Advanced Practice Nurses such as Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Midwives, and Nurse Anesthetists. They can work in clinics, physician offices, public health, schools, health insurance precertifications, etc. Most RN's with young children work evenings/nights, or weekends so they aren't paying a daycare or someone else to raise their child.

Now, looking over that answer...what career do you think is better?

Franklin Said:

What do you think about Medical Assistance?

We Answered:

It would be a good start. But be sure to continue with your studies so that you can advance. Parallel fields include accounting, human resource manager, business office manager, and even para legal.

Its difficult, I know. But you can do it.

pre medical assistance for DO?

We Answered:

Biology should get you through all those. I'm majoring in biology and my school just doesn't require the 2nd year of physics but I'm taking it as an elective. My friend who is majoring in it that goes to another school has all of those required for her major.

And don't worry too much into it. If you let your advisor know about your plans for medical school they will help you make those prerequisites even with something such as English as a major.

By the way, most schools don't have a "pre-med" major. If for some crazy reason you don't end up going to medical school what are you going to do with a major in pre-med? Go for something your interested in and will help you get a job just in case your plans don't work out.

I need MATURE EXPERIENCE MEDICAL /DENTAL OFFICE ASSISTANCE?

We Answered:

Dental and Medical Assistants aren't certified... there's a big difference between getting a Diploma and a Certification. My advice to you is to go to a community college or a school that guarantees certification. Or don't mess around at all with being an assistant... go to school and get your 4 year degree as a RN. You get paid more and they don't treat you like a slave as much as they do Assistants. Working at a hospital is much better than working at a regular doctor's office because... sometimes the staff... depending on how much education they have and their title... they can be very unprofessional.

If I would've known how bad it is to be a Medical Assistant... I would have never went to school to become one. It's a waste of money. Because sometimes they get people off of the streets... train them... and pay them as much or more than someone that had already went to school and got a diploma.

Don't waste your time or money going to schools that don't really care about your education and that only want your money. Go to a community college and become an RN. You won't regret it like I did.

I went to a trade school that rushed my education... had stupid teachers... and getting through my externship was awful. Just don't waste your money... go to a real school!!!!

Cassandra Said:

Future career assistance? :]]?

We Answered:

Yes! Don't waste your time or money! because one the cost is way too high and the admissions rep gets money off of you that is why they are calling you so much. Go to HCC or a Medical institute that are base on medical programs only. Don't let the name "college" fool you.
