Medical Assistant Career Objective
Peter Said:
want to change from med. assistant to veterinary asst.?We Answered:
First you need to look up the Veterinary Board in your area for vet tech requirements. All states differ. Most states though you can practice without holding a vet tech license/certification. Veterinary med is totally different as far as licensing than human med, there are not as many requirements. The thing with us is we are not as specialized as human medicine so we do it all. We do the nursing but also you will be "like" a rad tech, a surg tech, a lab tech etc. as these are all done by the vet tech. Very rare to find specialties in this industry, it's slowly getting there but still very far behind. Here in Idaho I practiced with and without a license however eastern states are more stricter. In maryland I could practice without a license I just couldn't induce and intibate. There are online courses that you can take from certain schools, most you need to have on hands experience so many you have to actually maintain an apprenticeship or job at a vets office.
I started out as a receptionist and worked my way up to a vet tech, took my boards and became certified. Now you have to go to school. If you are really interested in becoming a tech then I suggest that you call every vets office in your area and see if they have any positions open. Most techs I have known and worked with didn't go to school and they worked their way up from kennel attendants or receptionists. Most vets do not like to take on people with no vet skills. Mostly its due to the fact that people need basic training in animal handling and restraint. This is the one thing that will get you in the door. Is these basic skills. So go out to any book store and find some books on animal restraint and bone up. Once you have this knowledge then you can say I have animal handling and restraint knowledge. Get your own pets and practice. Then you have experience, yeah you wont be a pro but honestly you will not be looked at unless you have these skills. Vet techs are weird, they think they know everything and they will always ask you when you call if you have experience. Passion and drive will also help. However before you go to school for something you will not be able to use other than for vet teching, get some inside experience. This profession is really not for everyone, it is extremely tiring, lifting dogs, extremely disgusting, you should witness an abscess and the smell before signing up, extremely sad, as we also help with euthanasias and the pay is not great. If you still feel that you are dedicated to this profession then I wish you the best as this profession is by far the most pleasurable in my eyes.

What is a good example of a career objective for a resume? We Answered:
Try this:------------------------------
Objective: To offer my excellent MEDICAL ASSISTANT credentials, reliability, honesty, eagerness to learn and excel, and positive attitude to a customer focused company in the Medical Field.
----------------------------
So if you were looking for a Medical Assistant, what would you think?
I also do hiring and lacking a cover letter, if there is no objective it's thrown into file 13. If there is a cover letter I will use that in lieu of an objective.
99 % of the resumes I get I only need to read the first sentence to eliminate the applicant. All of the applications I read further do have an objective.
So I would say the objective is important to me. And it's nice to know what the offer is right on the resume.
Best Wishes!

What are some tips when at a job inteview? We Answered:
Wear some nice clothes (no tennis shoes, jeans, t-shirts, etc. wear something nice like khaki pants or a skirt, make sure they're ironed) Try not to have jewelry so you're not tempted to fidget with it.Bring a portfolio, and have some references so they can gain some trust/confidence)
Try to make good eye contact and speak clearly with a good volume. They'll understand if you're nervous, it's your first interview! It's alright if you're a little shy, but not too much,
Some other tips: SMILE. They'll love you for it :)
And some questions they usually ask:
- Strengths/weaknesses (be honest)
- How you deal with conflict (important for your job)
- Examples of you showing teamwork/good people skills
Good luck and congrats!!
