Medical Assistant Career

Danny Said:

which is a better career a dental assistant or a medical assistant?

We Answered:

No they are NOT paid the same. You can make more money as a certified dental assistant than a medical assistant. DAs make 11 to 25 per hour (average is usually 16-20 per hour for a certified DA).
Go to a community college that teaches DA. it is a 1 year program.

Medical A. Make much less.

medical assistant career 10 POINTS FOR BEST ANSWER!!?

We Answered:

I have been a medical assistant for 6 years. I have learned so much from this career The medical assistant is a few jobs lumped together. They are a cross between a medical secretary to laboratory aid to a nurse. If you want a career that gives you variety you should choose medical assistant. If you enjoy the medical field it is a rewarding career. you can choose to work as medical secretary or like me, a certfied medical assistant who mostly enjoys the clinical side. I administer injections, echocardiograms, perform vital signs, call in prescriptions, assist with procedures and answer patients questions ranging from medications to their lab results. The pay depends on where you live. I say that because the cons of being a medical assistant is that yes, its getting to a really popular field but at the same time, not a lot of people still recognize a medical assistants abilites. that can be frustrating which is why some medical assistants eventually become nurses to gain that recognition for what they are already doing and to get better pay. The learning experience you can gain from being a medical assistant can be huge.

What is the best career medical assistant, health unit coordinator, or medical transcript?

We Answered:

I've heard that the job of a health unit coordinator can be quite stressful dealing with all levels of those in the medical field and having to be adept at multi-tasking. With medical assistant (or medical biller or coder), there aren't supposed to be too many jobs out there as the field is saturated with graduates of the numerous programs looking for work. I'm not sure with medical transcriptionist as far as the number of jobs available.

Please beware of the 'work at home' offers as most are a scam especially if asking for money upfront or for personal info which may put one at risk for identity theft: http://www.ftc.gov and can click 'identity theft' or such.

This website seems to have some info on health unit coordinator: http://www.nahuc.org

For general career info about medical transcriptionist or such: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can type into search.

Is being a Medical Assistant a good career to go into?

We Answered:

Are you looking at front office or back office?

I teach medical front office and medical billing and coding. If you are thinking about medical front office (medical administrative assisting) I recommend you study billing and coding instead. Right now in this economy my students who study billing have been able to get a front office job as they know about insurance and they can hopefully work their way up.

If you are considering clinical medical assisting it can be a good start. However, if you can earn an LVN in the same time as completing your medical assisting program, I would recommend LVN. Much more bang for your buck.

If you only have time to do clinical medical assisting you can sometimes find a bridge program from medical assisting to LVN then to RN. However, it is sometimes easier to go from CNA to LVN to RN because all three tend to be inpatient and medical assistants usually work in outpatient facilities.

Discuss It!
