According to Department of Labor and Statistics Billing, Coding and Information Management in general are great fields with projected growth.

Lonnie Said:

how to start a home based medical billing and coding career?

We Answered:

I am assuming that you are already familiar with medical billing. Then you will need to have the software necessary to submit UB-1500's and HFCA's. Then you can go out and begin getting business. You will have to be able to prove that you are totally HIPAA compliant. As far as coding, my understanding is that is largely a hospital-based career since once you are working with patients' charts. Given the climate of concerns about privacy, you may not be in a position to perform coding unless you could interface with a hospital's EMR from your home. Good luck.

Is medical billing & coding a good career path to chose?

We Answered:

The local Community College near myself has a program that is a certificate program. From what I know you have to have good memory and communication skills. Not sure how much it pays. How about Nurses Aide? Many nursing homes have paid on site training with out all the college work. Or you can train at a local college and earn a certificate. Nurses Aide are in high demand everywhere and anywhere for all types of institutions.
