Medical Billing And Coding Careers

Dawn Said:

medical billing/coding career? social interaction?

We Answered:

It's not hard but it can be rather boring and repetitive. Whether or not you'll have to interact with a lot of people will depend on where you end up working. No job is completely interaction-free but some hospitals and clinics allow their employees to work from home now and it's definitely a lot less stressful if you don't like having to deal with office politics and drama.

Medical Billing/Coding Career & 10 Year Old Drug Felony Conviction?

We Answered:

First things first. You are going to have to check with your state to determine 'how bad' is 'the felony'. Each state has different felony classifications, and how long they are considered 'active'. Now, based upon what you are saying, your conviction 'may' have dropped out the 'range' of being active...BUT this depends upon the type of felony, and what the law says. It wouldn't hurt to check with an attorney...or labor attorney's office (maybe even legal aid...they're free). You need to do this ASAP. Felony convictions, sometimes, are a bar to getting student grants and loans...even from two year institutions.

And...do resist the temptation to LIE about the conviction. Make sure that you have plenty letters of reference, proof that you have been through drug rehab, and proof that you have remained 'clean and sober'. MOST medical jobs DO require drug testing (even random drug testing). IF you were place on Parole for the conviction, you may even need a letter of recommendation from the Parole Agent that handled your case.

You've got good potential...so start the legal checking.

We Answered:

These people "compile data, compute fees and charges, and prepare invoices for billing purposes." Many, perhaps 35% work in health insurance industry. Most employers expect some college. You should expect slower than average growth in total employment numbers with more computerized record keeping.

Median earnings were about $29K in 2006.

Medical billing & coding career?

We Answered:

As for psychology being hard or easy, that will depend on your instructor, your book, and your interest in the material. Psychology was one of my easiest A's ever because I was interested in the material and my teacher made the class fun.

This link will tell you basically what the job involves. http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos103.htm
