Medical Billing And Coding Class

Sara Said:

Looking for an on line Medical Billing and Coding class, any suggestions?

We Answered:

Perhaps your local community college offers an online course if even a non-credit course. A county vo-tech school may have an on-campus program, but it doesn't seem that they have the online courses as of late. Please stay away from those 'online schools' such as penn foster and stratford career institute as employers don't usually find them to be reputable. And just a word to the wise, I've heard here and on other message boards that there are not a lot of jobs for medical billers (and coders). There are just so many programs out there graduating students which outweighs the positions available. And a coder generally needs a couple years experience with doing some coding on the job while also needing to get their certification.

For more general career info: US occupational outlook handbook www.bls.gov/oco and can type into search 'medical biller' or medical coder' or such.

Danny Said:

Will taking a class for medical coding and billing prepare you for medical transcription as well?

We Answered:

You will need Medical Terminology to do transcription. Depending on the specialty (if any) you may want to do an online course that just specializes in your area. If you want to do transcription for a variety of practices, you will need much more extensive terminology training.

Billing and coding is a different animal all together.

Why is it necessary to take business communications class for medical billing and coding?

We Answered:

It's called "filler". There isn't a ton they can teach you in regards to the actual medical billing (the industry is so fluid that things are constantly changing) so the make you take a bunch of other stuff so you feel justified in spending so much.

Alfred Said:

Are there any free medical billing and coding classes or courses online that i can take?

We Answered:

I don't know if there are, but it'd be a waste of your time because no one would hire you. You have to have a degree and get certified, which takes a minumum of 2 years.

Sara Said:

hey I need help taking medical billing and coding class?

We Answered:

It does get easier. Once you get the basic understanding of how it works, the rest will be easy. Ask your professor for help, or someone in the class who seems to be good at it.
Don't give up! :)

Online Medical Billing and coding Class?

We Answered:

Please be wary of online schools including penn foster who's been under several names and has over 200 complaints to the bbb and stratford career. http://www.ripoffreport.com has more info about those schools. Perhaps the local county college (or county vo-tech school) offers an online course (even non-credit course) that is accredited within the industry. That may be more affordable too. Just a word to the wise that there are not supposed to be too many jobs for the medical biller and coder (or medical assistant).

Has anyone taken the medical billing and coding class at Chubb Institutue?

We Answered:

I am a teacher at a private vocational college and all I can tell you is that the majority of these schools the teachers only have to have worked in the filed that they are teaching for 3 years, you will only be taught what they know unless, unless you have a teacher like myself that will take a step futher, I wont just teach the curriculum that is put in front of me by the school. I am currently still in the field fulltime as a medical office specialist/billing and coding so I am kept current on the field and I take the experiences from my day job and apply them to my night job as a teacher teaching medical office specialist medical billing and coding, I am always networking and finding new websites and literature for my students. All I can say to you is be very careful and check around and see the employment rate for previous students that have graduated, you can also go in and speak with a companies human resources office to see if they employ people from that institute and you can also ask them what training or post secondary school would they recommend.

Discuss It!
