Roy Said:

What work can I do & how do I find a job?

We Answered:

My first suggestion is for you to write down a list of things that you do well. You've described your limitations very well; but you have not given much information about the things that you can do; or the things that you enjoy doing. It is easier to give you ideas of where to look for work if we know what you do. For example: do you cook or bake? Do you do laundry and iron clothes? Do you draw, paint, sketch? Do you sew, crochet, knit, quilt, etc? Do you do any sort of craft? There are many skills that we learn as homemakers that we can apply to paying jobs; you need to be able to describe the skills you do have.

You say that your husband has been employed doing paperwork at a desk. So, I assume that he does have some marketable skills. It might help to find out what types of employers are hiring in your community right now. For example: the health care industry in most places may still be hiring; so it may be possible to find work at a hospital, clinic, rehabilitation center, nursing home, home health care agency, physician's office, x-ray and imaging facility, lab, or any of the service providers for people with disabilities. Another field that is growing is education; so your husband could check out local community colleges, public schools, private schools, or universities.

There are programs that train and offer part-time work at the same time. The social workers that you have been in contact with should be able to refer you; but here are links to a few that I was able to find:

If you truly need money immediately; then take a look around your house. There may be pieces of furniture, and other things that you are not using; and so you can sell these things for cash. You could have a yard sell, use a consignment shop, or (with great caution about scams) use the classified section in your local paper.
