I can tell you this much: Teachers in public schools live just above the poverty line in some states. In TN, they barely break 22k a year in my area. This may vary from state to state, but the general consensus is that teachers do not get paid enough for what they do. They have to take their work home with them, have to deal with student conflicts, etc. Apart from early childhood education, most teachers have a bachelor's degree.

The medical field, on the other hand, pays quite well. You can make around 35-40k a year after a 2-year degree as a nurse. If you would rather work with things and ideas rather than people, you could pursue a degree in medical technology. Granted, most employers like to see a bachelor's degree in this area even for some of the medical technician jobs. You can get by with a 2-year degree, though. There's also technician jobs available - EKG, X-RAY, Cardio, etc. Tons of jobs that only take 2-4 years to complete.

Keep in mind when I say 2-4 years that's an optimal path. Most people take longer. It's more likely going to take 3-5 years instead.

Medical Transcription has become a separate profession. If you are able to understand the medical terminology and have interest in patient case history you can work with doctors as medical transcriptionist. Becoming an MD and then becoming a professor in a medical school or any other medical position. I knew someone who became a dental assistant and went into teaching it to others at the local tech school. You can "teach" anything you want so long as you have the qualifications.

Med. school ... There's an increasing need for primary care physicians in the US. You'll be well-paid. You'll help people feel good and healthy, it'll be rewarding but a lot of hard work.
