Well it all depends on the person to be honest. It would depend on what you yourself likes.

A couple of medical career questions?

We Answered:

1) Yes, there are many positions in hospitals. In my hospital (I am a hospital pharmacy manager), about 400 beds, I have about 40 pharmacy techs. Every hospital will have some (except maybe some rural 10 bed hospitals). Other areas besides retail include long-term care (a central pharmacy that takes care of nursing homes), home care pharmacies (take care of patients receiving care at home - making IVs), and nuclear pharmacy (they make radioactive compounds - in this one you typically start in the middle of the night and get off at noon). I have worked everywhere except nuclear, I would recommend hospital. Within a hospital there are many different roles for pharmacy technicians. The pay range is about $11 to $20/hour. so make sure this will meet your needs. In addition, I would use it as a stepping stone, if yo like it, maybe try pharmacy school.

2) Be careful with medical transcription. Many physicians are going to voice recognition software. If you go this route, make sure you are being taught how to use the new technology. My wife did medical transcription for a couple of years, her company lost a lot of physicians to voice recognition.

3) I have a lot of advice, but it is easier to refer you to my site I made for just this topic, http://www.pharmacytechnicianhq.com/. It is a free site I started to help people decide if pharmacy tech was right for them. If you read through the material and still have questions, send me an email. Best of luck,
