Medical Careers Direct

Miguel Said:

Is medical careers direct a SCAM?

We Answered:

Just checked it out....if they won't provide you with information "out in the open" (like on their website), but require you to fill out a form........it's a scam, or rather an over-priced "career college" that will leave you with a ton of student loan debt and no transferable credits!

If you want a career in health care, look into your community college or a state university.

Ideas for a medical career?

We Answered:

How about Diagnostic Medical Sonography? Sonographers don't diagnose, but they get all the information (both from the patient verbally and with our images) so the Radiologist can make a diagnosis. It does require an Associate's degree (typically) and they are tough courses, but no where near a doctorate. Here's a link with more info: http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos273.htm

David Said:

Medical careers that don't require too much schooling and...?

We Answered:

Unfortunately, there are not many jobs that require little schooling. The shortest type of schooling for any position would be something like a nursing assistant, nurses aide, resident care attendant, or alot of the things that have "aide or assistant" attached them. With ones like RN, Doctors, and other types of health care practitioners involve anywhere from 2 years all the way up to 5 years.

Hope that this helps you.

Billy Said:

Are there navy doctors who have also been Marines?

We Answered:

I have personally known two Navy flight surgeons who flew Marine Corps aircraft as Marines. I also knew a Navy Chaplain who was a Marine Captain (infantry). Are they treated like Marines? NO. They are treated as doctors, with exceptional respect, who treat sick and injuried Marines same as any other doctor even though they had been Marines at one time. Do they interface with other Marine Corps officers at the O Club and social events - yes. If they have friends still on active duty, they socialize with them as well and talk about Marine good times that they experienced like everyone else. Are they more respected by Marines than Naval Medical Officers who did not serve in the Corps- absolutely yes. Bottomline is Navy Med Officers don't go around advertising their background. If they are assigned to the FMF, they can wear the Marine Corps green uniform and our utility uniform - it has NAVY on the pocket instead of USMC. They wear the eagle, globe, and anchor - this is regardless of any Marine Corps background! Applies to enlisted Corpsman also as well as Chaplains, Navy JAG officers, and couple others (see quote below).

Can they wear the Marine Corps emblem while serving with Marines? Yes. Following is an excerpt from Marine Corps Uniform Regulations:

"Naval officers and enlisted sailors assigned to Marine units are authorized to wear all Marine uniforms except the Dress and Evening Dress uniforms. When wearing Marine uniforms, Naval personnel must meet Marine grooming and physical regulations, as well as replace Marine insignia with U.S. Navy insignia whenever feasible. These members of the Fleet Marine Force include Doctors, Dentists, Nurses, Medical Service, Hospital Corpsmen, Chaplains, Religious Programs Specialists, Lawyers, Legalmen, Naval Gunfire Coordinators, Divers, and Naval Academy midshipmen who are selected for Marine officership."

This should answer your question.

Lieutenant Colonel, US Marine Corps-Retired (Marine aviator examined by several flight surgeons over 27 year career - PS - Flight Surgeons also get flight time in the backseat of Marine aircraft.)
