Honestly I wouldn't waste your time unless you know for sure that there are jobs in your area in this field. Schools turn out MBC's like no body's business and most aren't accredited. And you make next to nothing. CNA's usually make more. Looks for schools like Everest, Allied Medical College and Sanford-Brown, I'm in STL, MO so the names are probably different for you're area. But please don't pay $12,000-16,000 PLUS for some thing like that. you can get on the job training w/o going to school for it.

I have 4 friends that went to school for this and NONE of them have jobs in the field. For example in my area there are 6+ schools with MBC programs turning out 600-800 students every 9 to 12 months, no way all these people will get jobs after their clinicals but the school will never tell you that because they want the money.

I wouldn't recommend an online course for something like that MBC is very indept so it would be better to go to school for it, look for a place like Job Corp that offers things like that for free

I think it has a positive outlook. Its a job and a career, not a get rich quick scheme. You will most likely be working for a doctor's office, but also lawyer and engineers also use our services. There are plenty of jobs out there, you just need to be professional and write a great cover letter and resume specific to each job. Look each job is getting sometimes hundreds of applications for one single job, you need to make yourself stand out. Most people don't think about that, they go for quantity rather than quality.

For the other answers, this job will never go overseas or electronic. Most doctors I have worked for rather an American working for them as they understand the language the best.

Good Luck to you and don't let a couple sour grapes spoil your career, those people would have a hard time finding a job in any field.

I trained with www.meditec.com. After I completed the program, I went through their internship program, which lasted 3 months, but I was onto paid work in 2 months. I've been working at home ever since. The jobs are there. What you MUST do is go to a school that has contacts in the industry. US Career Institute is an educational clearinghouse that offers program in many different things and they don't have 'real' job placement. Career Step is a good school. I liked Meditec due to the internship and job placement.

I am also looking at online schools for medical billing and coding. I would not try Everest U. because I have read a lot of bad reviews. I have been searching for traditional campus schools that offers distant education courses in medical billing and coding. I came across two universities that offer the program you are looking for. You should try University of Cincinnati. This school offers a 1 year certificate program in medical billing and coding that you can earn entirely online. Another school is Southeastern University, this is a real university located in Washington, DC where I am from and they offer a associates degree entirely online. You should consider one of these schools because they are real traditional campus schools and you would know that you are not being scammed into one of those fake schools. STAY AWAY from schools like Penn Foster, Kaplan, etc.

First, I would look at the school's accreditations. They should be listed somewhere on the web site. Then, contact the places where they say they are accredited and make sure it's for real.

I do have some concerns about the place because of all the people I see posting exam answers on the Homework Help portion of YA.
