No. I don't think the classes in high school really do anything except for help your acceptance into a better school and for scholarships. You will more than likely have to take all the AP and advanced math over again in college because you will be required to have college credits in those areas. High school classes will only give you a head start.

I think there are a number of good medical transcription courses online. My daughter took one and has been able to work from home for the past 5 years. I don't know which one she took, though. I rather suspect it was the one she could afford, which translates into the cheapest one.

1. There are no grants for colleges. Loans, yes. Grants (except fro the Pell grant) no.
2. Online "schools" are a bad joke.
3. Transcription is a dying business. Technology is making it obsolete rapidly.
4. Everyone and their cousin is trying to do this. Supply FAR outstrips a rapidly declining demand.

I do medical transcription and general transcription and I make a proper living from home. I've heard of CareerStep and they are reputable. This site has lots of info if you want to do medical transcription and there is another online course listed that you can take; I'm sure there are a few reputable ones out there. I have no formal training, but was lucky to have a doctor's practice give me a chance and I built up my expereince that way, but that's rare.

Career Step is a well respected transcription school. What I did when I went to transcription school was to get an information packet from the top 3 or 4 schools and see which one fits you, your budget and your schedule the best. I followed Catherine's advice, you can find it here:
