Medical Careers With Children

Armando Said:

Which medical fields deal with helping children who are mentally disabled?

We Answered:

How about speech therapy. Not all kids who need speech therapy are mentally disabled, but there's a huge need for speech therapists these days. Occupation therapy is great because a lot of children who are developmentally delayed also need help with their motor skills.

Good job. I think you've chosen a very noble path!

Frances Said:

IS Diagnostic Medical Sonographer a good career to pursue with 2 young children?

We Answered:

I have a Bacheloreatte degree in Medical Imaging. It took me 4 years to do this. If I decided to go into Sonography it would take me 1 more year of school. However, you do not need the radiologic technology background for ultrasound. You can usually complete a Sonography program in 2 years. They have changed alot of the rules and become much more strict with giving out licenses (depending on the state). I think mainly because there is so much breast ultrasound being done now. Sonography is a great field and can be really rewarding. Just be prepared to work your tail off in school. It is very difficult, and here in Nebraska the schooling is year round. Getting my Bachelors in Medical Imaging was not an easy task, but it can be done.

Bob Said:

Is there any career in the medical field with children, and that will always be in high demand?

We Answered:

Here's some I can think of: Child psychologist, social worker, pediatric registered nurse, speech language pathologist, occupational therapist, or physical therapist. These are the ones I see in demand right now and will continue to be for the near future.
