I thought I wanted to be a dentist or a physician, what do you think? We Answered:
I heard somewhere that they weed out the med school applicants before they get to that 50%. Maybe they don't do that for dental students.Bobby Said:
Is The University of Texas Medical Branch better than The University of Texas Health and Science Center? We Answered:
Grrr. I just answered your question but my computer refreshed and it got erased. Hmph. The gist of what I was saying was that I work at UTMB and love it here. Things to consider when choosing your school are: professors you want to work with, if you're a beach person or city person, if you have a family what kind of school they can go to or work at, where you want to live, etc.

Is the current generation ready to center their careers around caring for the baby boomers? We Answered:
I was born 1965... I know..... what's is your question again? The baby boomers are retiring and have no money to retire with. Maybe the 1945 to 1955 generation. The ones coming after that no longer got the generous pensions and social security. Since I am trailing right behind them I can tell you what the 1955 to 1964 baby boomers are facing: NO MONEY to retire on. Their 401K's lost so much money if they even survived the many job changes and temptations to liquidate.
Do you have any idea what these 78 million baby boomers will do to the tax load? God help us... because Medicare right now covers 40 million americans.... where do you think the money will come from to give free medical services to 78 million more? At no extra cost at a time in ones life when you will need a Doctor the most, when the average American at age 65 is used to take 7 or more different prescription drugs for who knows what and is most likely to require some seriously expensive treatments, etc?
How do you pay for it? The next generation isn't large enough to pay for them and you know it. The retirement age will go up again and pretty soon you will be working until you are in you 70's... but only one problem.: The employers are not playing along anymore they will replace the old with the young irregardless of where the official retirement age is set. We will see the elderly homeless and destitute long before they can get a penny from social security.
Yeah... get a job in health care .... if you can handle the misery you will encounter on a daily basis.

Evelyn Said:
anyone who has taken a medical transcription course/ is a medical transcriptionist? We Answered:
To be honest, that course is very good, but not worth 8 thousand dollars. Look into Meditec (www.meditec.com). Their course is on special this month for around $1600 and they've been in business over 40 years and have an excellent internship program.Yes, I found learning MT very challenging. I breezed through the anatomy, terminology, and book work. However, learning to tune my ear to the dictation was very difficult to me. However, I'm glad that I stuck w/ it because the income is great at $18 to $20 an hour and now it's not difficult for me anymore.
Good luck to you. Don't pay $8,000 to learn to transcribe. Seriously that is WAY out of the ball park.

Professional Careers for a future spa owner.....?We Answered:
If you know that you want to have your own spa and interested in medicine then you should definitely look into everything related to beauty and cosmetology. Try to get a job with a plastic surgeon, maybe become one yourself, or you can be an assistant if you don't want to go to the medical school. You can also go into biology if you are good at that and research aging process etc... Anything that would help you in the future.Good Luck!
