Medical Coder Careers
Donald Said:
what is a better career to get into a medical transcriber or a medical coder? We Answered:
I can't give you both sides.. only one, medical transcription. Perhaps you'll get someone who has done both.I was a medical transcriptionist working from home for 13 years.
Many transcriptionists get their training through a course of study while others carry their medical terminology knowledge with them from other health related fields. You would need to get the terminology down, and then get started. Many companies want experience so there's a catch-22. However, doctors and hospitals may be hiring, and after a time you can work from home as many transcriptionists do.
There's some excellent information for anyone considering a career in this field in the website listed below. No affiliation with any school or products, just good info, including real job listings.

I am a nurse and I want to change careers and become a medical coder. How do I do this? Where Do I start? We Answered:
You could do well in that career with a backround in nursing. Try a correspondence course to get familiar with the basics:http://www.pennfoster.edu/medic/index.ht…
I've taken a course from them and I enjoyed it and learned enough to get myself started in a different career. It's not like "regular" school - you can work at your own pace and it's a lot less expensive than taking classes. And you get a certificate. But employers will value your nursing background more I think.

How do I become a Medical Coder? We Answered:
I am attending a college called REMINGTON they offer a nine month program for medical coder and insurance. It's a nice school but varies where your location is. You could maybe land a spot without schooling, but goodluck. Employers want someone with experience. I'm sure you can find a school close by, where are you from?Frank Said:
Whats the different between a Medical Biller and a Medical Coder? We Answered:
I am currently taking online courses for 3 different occupations. I am doing Medical claims and billing, medical transcription, medical and dental assistant. I am learning some on medical coding (goes with my medical billing). I know that medical billers finds out what the insurance companies owe and what they don't cover how much the individual person owes them and they bill it to them. They take care of the claims. I know that the medical coder takes cares of the codes and writes the codes to different things-billings but i am not sure a whole lot yet what all they do cause I am just now reading and learning about the coding...they are both close to the same pay. if you go to www.salary.com then type in the occupation and the city which you'll work than it'll give you the estimated amount you will make...good luck with your decision!Danny Said:
what are some medical careers that you can study for a short time but that don't involve working with blood? We Answered:
There are not many at home medical careers. Medical transcription and some billing can be done at home. Its very difficult to find these jobs. A Pharmacy tech, medical records clerk, or even a medical office specialist are a few of the jobs that do not involve blood. And all of these can be learned in less than 2 years at school. Look into your local technical schools for these classes some may even be able to be completed online.
