Medical Coding And Billing Career

Lois Said:

Is the medical coding/billing a good career field to go into?

We Answered:

I was very fortunate to actually get experience working in medical coding and billing without actually going to school for it. When I was a kid I babysat for my neighbors and when I got out of high school I went to work in his Chiropractic office. They taught me billing firsthand and now I have over 6 years of experience in the field. Its not what I'm going to school for now but I'm still working in that field because its great money and easy to find a job doing it. Now I'm an office manager for a different chiropractor so theres room for advancement too. Theres so many opportunities out there for people who know what they're doing! I think it would be a great move for you.

David Said:

I can't decide on digital graphics or medical coding and billing career , help?

We Answered:

With medical billing and coding (and medical assistant), there aren't supposed to be too many jobs despite what those private $$ tech schools say. Medical billing companies are outsourcing to Asia/India more and more these days leaving jobs more scarce. Most coders need to have a couple years experience doing coding tasks, certification(s) in the field and preferably completion of an accredited medical coding program to possibly get a job.

I'm not sure about digital graphics or if that's related to graphic design and if there is a need for them right now. For general career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'graphic designers' or such.

Whichever field that you choose, especially for a trade, please forgo those private expensive schools and opt for the county vo-tech school or community college as long as the program is accredited within the industry.
