Melinda Said:

what are the benifits (i.e medical & dental ) in working as a obstetrician?

We Answered:

Probably excellent if you work at a large hospital.

It would likely be up to you or your practice manager to choose a plan if you started your own practice.

The tricky thing about professions is that while you have more earning potential than with other types of jobs, there are fewer guaruntees as to clients, benefits or even earnings as there are if you, say, become a nurse.

Should I move to Australia or stay in America?

We Answered:

Life is much better in Oz:
1. Stricter gun laws
2. Guaranteed unemployment insurance ( 6 months in USA)
3. Lowest unemployment rate in the world ( 5 % in Australia, 10% in USA)
4. Australia's growing importance with China ( as opposed to declining USA - China relationship )

Tracy Said:

why are Medical Doctors called physicians?

We Answered:

Physic (no s) is a fairly archaic term with two meanings: 1) the art of medicine and therapeutics, and 2) a cathartic. Until relatively recent times there were few effective medications, and physicians prescribed cathartics for many ailments. So "physician," an authorized practitioner of medicine, derives from both meanings of "physic" although we would prefer the first derivation over the second.
