Medical Doctor Careers

Joanne Said:

What careers are there related to science, other than a medical doctor?

We Answered:

PLENTY. Most any profession with "ology" or "ologist" on the end deal in some way with science. Think about it.

Alberto Said:

Are there any careers out there that are medical related and art related?

We Answered:

Plastic surgery. Not only are you operating on your patient, you get to create their new face which takes some amount of artistic talent.

Jeanette Said:

What other medical careers are there aside from being a nurse or doctor?

We Answered:

dentistry, pediatrics, epidemiology, clinical lab science, pharmacy, podiatry. If you look online about medical fields there are tons.

Bobbie Said:

What medical careers are there when you want to be a doctor and work on a busy floor?

We Answered:

Emergency medicine is a specialty all its own; with a 3 or 4 year internship-residency after med school and ER boards to take.

Alma Said:

what stages do medical doctor go through before becoming a consultant?

We Answered:

Following medical school you would need to complete 2 years as a foundation doctor, which would include training in general medicine and surgery in the first year, then a choice of specialities in the second. In order to progress from here, you would need to satisfy local informal assessments, and completion of a portfolio. Then you would choose a speciality such as surgery to enter the speciality training grade ST1. It is now proposed that this will progress through to ST7 eventually, ie one ST grade a year, at which point you could apply for consultant posts. During the ST grades you would need to pass membership exams, which are currently 3 staged for surgery, as well as annual local assessments and the ubiquitous portfolio. This is a very recent change to the traditional system of house officers, senior house officers and registrars.

Olga Said:

What kind of careers are there that concern biology( not medical doctor careers)?

We Answered:

There are careers in every field of biology: zoology, ecology, envrionmental science, botany, agriculture, genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, pathology, virology, bacteriology, mycology, etc... The list is nearly endless.

Generally speaking your salary is related to your education and work experience. If you are a technician with a bachelors, you would make 25-40k, if you are a Ph.D. scientist in a high profile area you can make 6 figures. There is a lot of variation, depending on field and source of employment (government, academia, industry, etc...)

You can begin working at lower level jobs with an associate degree, but most biology jobs require a bachelors at a minimum.
