Medical Examiner Careers
Armando Said:
Can you be a medical examiner first and then swith to a primary care physician? We Answered:
Both are physicians, so both would have been to the same medical school. But if you wanted to change from Pathology/Forensics to Family Practice or Internal Medicine, you would need to attend the course work for that specialty. Normally those physicians who have already been to one residency in a specialty, are then post graduate fellows (or in a fellowship) for a second specialty. However, Fellowships are normally seen in advanced or subspecialty programs, and not the initial post graduate education programs, so it might require a second residency. You would need to discuss this with the individual advisors at the schools. Many medical students are undecided or have mixed feelings about their final goals when they start school, but decide on a final residency plan when they are doing clinical rotations in school.
Kenneth Said:
What type of schooling n degree would u have to receive to become a medical examiner? We Answered:
You would have to be a doctor. That means 4 years of undergrad to get your bachelors degree and to get pre-requisites for medical school. THen you go to medical school, which is VERY tough and hard to get into. THen you have another few years of your residency, where you would start your specialty. YOu get paid for this, but the hours are terrible and the pay isn't good. Overall you are looking at at least 10 years.Bob Said:
