It depends on how old you are. Your career choices and what you want to go to school for could change drastically in a short amount of time. Are you already is college? You should start planning before you get there.
I have changed my major in college three times and I went into college pretty clueless as to what I wanted to do (all you wind you with is a lot of elective hours and wasted time ha ha).
You need to see if you can talk to your school councelor to help you and direct you in the right path. There are assesment test and career evalutation tests out there to help you figure out where your best skills (not necessarily your interests ) and someone with your personality lie. These tests cost money, but if you go to you couselor they might have some kind of voucher for you to take them for free. Then you can begin to pick out careers with horses that correspond with your best skills. And there are career evaluation classes offered at college that I would recommend anyone to take to better help you with such decisions.

It's very good that you are volunteering at a hospital so early. Keep on doing this.
Freshman year: Take a course in Living environment in high school
Sophomore year: take a course in chemistry.
Junior Year: take AP Biology
Senior Year: Take AP Chemistry.
After your freshman year of college, you can sign up for a competitive conference that prepares people for the pre-medical track while they are in college. This is a very prestigious program and it would give you a lot of connections in college that would make it easier to get into medical school.

To study Genetics you should do 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology.

Most of the institutes do not offer Genetics at Bachelors level of study and one needs to do degree (B.Sc. / BE / B.Tech) in biotechnology, molecular biology, microbiology or biochemistry.

After Bachelors degree one can do Masters degree in Genetics.
