The ivies offer degrees in science and liberal arts. They do not offer degrees in medical imaging- that is more of a trade school or nursing school degree. Columbia offers nursing, but not medical imagery.

If you have a good working knowledge of the human body, and how it all works in a PRACTICAL sense, then you'll find it MUCH easier to X-Ray, MRI, CT-Scan the body. What better way to see the body in motion than to work on/with athletic people? I think you'll see the benefit of having seen what a broken leg looks like on a person before you have to manipulate that broken apendage in an emergency image situation. Another thing that comes to mind is the fact that people that play sports are usually in good shape, so it should be easier to see the muscles and bones in them than in the majority of over weight Americans..... Im usually more concise than this but a few beers and a little sleep deprivation make it tough to focus...... BEST OF LUCK and hope this sparked some ideas.

If you are a rad tech and only have an associates degree or diploma of some kind you will have to go in as an enlisted person. If you have a bachelors degree in radiation technology or some other type of rad degree you can get a commission and go in as an officer.

Either way, they do have X-ray machines that they can deploy. The Army currently has a program to ensure that everyone gets to share in the duties in the war zones. The USAF has (had?) Air Transportable Hospitals that came equipped with a complete X-ray department. In the Navy you could be deployed on a ship such as a carrier or Marine amphibious assault ship that has rad capabilities.

If you want to work at a military hospital and not run the risk of being deployed then you need to get a job as a civilian. check out the website below for federal employment opportunities. (Most are at VA hospitals so at least you will be around those who had the courage to serve without putting strings on the deal.)

Become an Xray Tech, they make a lot of money and are in demand. Also you can learn other modalities once you start working and be more marketable.
