a lot of people are going into the medical field right now; by the time you finish either degree the economy will be well on it's way upwards not downwards. a lot of people will have teh medical degree-it is not as easy to get a job as you may think esp without experience. teaching will be more guaranteed-esp by the time you graduate. plus you can do more than teach with a bachelors (4 yrs not 6) and with a medical lab assistant you are limited making it less of a career and more of a job. still, you have to do what you want and student loans are def something to consider. Both of my parents are teachers and have had the choice of considering other option in the teaching field (administration, curriculum) and yes the summers off are very nice. you also may not start out making that much but depending where you live you will gain experience and then more money. course, ive not heard of any medical lab assistants starting out at 30,000 a yr either. My friend is a medical lab assistant and she loves what she does but she would struggle financially if she didnt have a husband to help add to the income. All i'm saying is a bachelors isnt worth as much as it used to be and if you dont even have that you could get stuck one day with a close to worthless license when you couldve have taken the chance to get a degree earlier when you still had the time.

I am actually planning on starting a Medical Laboratory Technology program next year. I have been an EMT for 5 years, I work for a county EMS service and a hospital based EMS service. At the hospital, I spend my free time in the lab and it really seems to be interesting. I was considering Nursing as my next step but since I found out that a college near me offers a lab tech 2yr program, I believe I am going to aim for that program
