Medical Laboratory Technician Career

Victoria Said:

What career path should i take? medical science or artist?

We Answered:

med sci, u can have art as a part time hobby. med sci is much more respectable and u'll feel gd for saving lives.

nowadays most people can go online and stuff to look at pictures and due to technology artists are less in demand. u'll have a more secure life with med sci and ast as a hobby.

and even if u do wanna become an artist later, atleast u got a very gd degree under ur belt incase ur art career goes rong :)

Roberto Said:

Medical Laboratory technician?

We Answered:

It's a great career but don't expect to make a lot of money. I'm a medical technologist (MT) in the States and love my job. The money can be decent if you can work your way into a supervisory position.
But you can't stop after becoming an MLT. Once you get your feet wet in the profession keep going to school and get your MT degree. The career and financial advantages are significant.

Marian Said:

I have an AAS in Medical Laboratory Technician, but I am unable to find employment.?

We Answered:

For-profit colleges or community colleges, it doesn't matter as long as you attain your national and state certifications to work in the field of your profession. It's snarky comments like from the so called "current health care professional" that you need to stay away from. Odds are she isn't even involved in the hiring process.

So yes, I did go to a for-profit college and I had no problem whatsoever in finding work. Hell, I even moved to a different state after I graduated college and in less than twenty days I found a full-time job as a radiologic technologist with the largest healthcare network in my state.

Now to answer your question, here are a few suggestions:

1. Sign up for an account on indeed.com. It is a job search engine that pulls job listings from all over the world wide web and it even lists them by the radius of distance you set on your preferences. It can also search jobs you may be looking for by keywords, (i.e. lab, tech, MLT, MT, med tech, lab-tech, laboratory, and so forth).

2. Search the internet and your yellowbook for nearby facilities that possibly have a lab. If they dont have a careers section where you can apply online, then odds are they are going to have a listing under the contact us section with a fax number. That is where you need to mass fax your resume out to these facilities. It may be expensive if you dont have your own fax machine, but it's better than sitting at home not making any money. However, the only drawback to that is some HR reps or office manager may see that as bad ettiquette if you dont call them first to ask them if they are willing to accept your resume via fax for future consideration. I still get calls every now an then to work from facilities that I faxed my resume to way back when. Hope this helps, good luck and stay agressive in your job search.

When I was in med tech school the hospital lab had clerks or techs that worked in accessioning to just receive in samples and deliver / route samples. It was great entry level experience.
