Medical Office Assistant Careers

Wanda Said:

medical lab assistant, medical office assistant, medical transcription ?? which career is better?

We Answered:

Of the three, transcription of course is the only one you could eventually do from home. But if it's patient interaction you want, then the other two are it. Office work can be tough unless you like to fix problems over the phone. Medical assisting involves more personal interaction with patients.

The website below is very helpful in providing tons of information on medical transcription.

Medical Office Assistant career? 10 points to best answer!?

We Answered:

First, let me just warn you that MA jobs are pretty hard to come by (your area may be different, tho), and do not Second, they rarely work at hospitals (some do, but it is still pretty rare). They do work in clinics & doc's offices. If you wanted to work with kids you would have to find a job in a pediatric clinic or office. Be aware also, that working with kids is not a rosy, happy, play with infants jobs. Most of the time you are with them seconds, they may be sick & cranky and often messy. You have to do things to them that they will not like & you have to deal with mom. It is important to understand exactly what the medical field entails--that is why so many are disillusioned & unhappy with their choice. Once you do research, then you can make an informed decision.

Corey Said:

Medical Office Assistant is this a good career?

We Answered:

This is what I took in college and now work for a specialist in a hospital. Personally, I love my job and I do not work weekends although I'm sure there is the odd office that might do evenings, most will not do weekends unless you are working in an after hours clinic. I make $17.51 an hour but that is in Canada and I am not sure where you live, so that will play a factor. The only con that I can think of is that some doctors can be not so nice to their staff, but I have never experienced this personally. To work in a dentist office you would need to take a dental office assistant program instead of the medical since you need to have knowledge of different tests, anatomy, and diseases. There may however be some dentists that are willing to overlook having the medical background instead of the dentistry background, but that is not always a guarantee. You should be a able to work in a veterinary office as a secretary because that only requires the basic secretary course. Personally, I love the Medical field and find it sooo interesting. Good luck in whatever you choose :)
