Medical Office Career

Darryl Said:

Is a Medical office assistant a difficult career to learn?

We Answered:

I've been in the medical field for 33 years and there are many classes for being a medical assistant in adult education and probably online. It would be a better idea to be around other people who are going to the same classes, just to get the feel for what you'll be doing. It's not hard to learn and it can be very interesting. Actually, medical assistants get to do a lot of things the nurses used to do.like taking blood pressures, weighing patients, etc. You should be a good people person and if you are,go for it and good luck with a new career.

How is Basic Probability used in the Medical Office Administration career?

We Answered:

I've worked in medical offices over 20 years. I've taught medical front office and billing and coding for five years.

The only thing I can think of is this.

Patient's have radar. Where the radar is we have not been able to determine. However, we know it exists. Why?

Because, say you have three patients call in one hour. Statistically that would be one patient every 20 minutes, correct?

Oh, but NO!

You will have at least two of the patients call at the same time and sometimes all three call at once. If you have only two lines you find this out because when the third patient gets through they tell you that when they called before they only got a busy signal.

What's a better career a Pharmacy Technologist or Medical Office Administrator?

We Answered:

Just a word to the wise that there are about four posts at http://www.ripoffreport.com about heald college (can just type into search). Regarding your choice in majors, perhaps you can consider where you see yourself in a year or so after your education -- as an office manager of a medical office or a pharmacy technician.

Please consider the local community college or county vo-tech school as opposed to those private $$ tech schools as long as it's accredited within the industry.

For general career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'administrative office managers', 'pharmacy technicians' or such.
