Medical Technology Career
Billy Said:
Is medical technology a good career? We Answered:
Yes! Anything related to the Medical field is great. Jobs are always in demand and the pay is very good. Sometimes you are on call and wear a pager. You are paid very well for when you are on call and if you get paged you must drop everything and come to work. My boyfriend works at a hospital, has excellent benefits, pay .. its very rewarding! Best of Luck and God Bless! :)Bruce Said:
Medical Technology-is this a good career?We Answered:
I might be a bit biased since that's my major ^_^.I think it's a great career. There's currently more job openings than graduates to fill them. By 2014, job openings are expected to be triple the number of graduates. The pay is also quite good. You get almost as much as a RN and don't have nearly as much stress.
With that being said, a lab tour at my local university helped me make up my mind. I suggest you speak with your school's department head and schedule a lab tour.
Good luck!

General career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'clinical laboratory technologists and technicians' or such. There should be additional sites for more info at the end of the entry.US colleges: http://www.utexas.edu/world/univ

What are the steps to take in order to have a career in Medical Technology? ?We Answered:
You will definately need to become certified through one of multiple certifying bodies, and it's best to complete a clinical internship in medical technology/clinical laboratory science approved by NAACLS (usually a 45-52 week program) in order to prepare you for a national board certifying examination. With a bachelor's degree in the biological sciences and the appropriate prerequisites you can apply to any school of medical technology (internship) that has a "4+1" option - the four refers to an already obtained degree plus a 1 year (50 week) clinical internship. A lot of MT interns in the medical technology degree program apply as "3+1" students and use the internship as their senior year. The program prepares you to sit for and pass a certifying examination in medical technology/clinical laboratory science through either ASCP (The American Society of Clinical Pathology), NCA (National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel) or AMT (American Medical Technologists). Check with your local college, university or hospital to find the best MT school in your area. See the link below for the different qualifying routes for the ASCP certification (ASCP is the most widely accepted in the U.S.).Kevin Said:
What is being in a career in medical technology like? What careers are available? Is it a good career? We Answered:
Options are endless, you can live an any sized town and find work about everywhere. There is always a shortage of MTs. It is a good career choice if one doesn't mind making less than 6 figures. Some opportunities may exsist to move to even higher salary in director positions. Average salary might range from 40-60K depending on location. The work is rewarding, exciting, and, always changing. You get to help patients doing behind the scenes work. If you aren't big on being a people person it's a great match.Jill Said:
What career is more exciting: sonography, radiology or nuclear medical technology? We Answered:
This is very individual - what one person thinks is exciting, another may not. Also, sonography and nuclear medicine are part of radiology. I'm going to assume you mean radiography (x-ray). If by exciting you mean trauma, then you could get that with radiography.Martin Said:
