Military Medical Careers

Johnny Said:

Which branch of the military would be most productive for a medical career?

We Answered:

As far as medical, any. It is all basically the same and the medical side of the military is practically joint now meaning doctors can be assigned to other branches of service. All doctors are officers.

On the enlisted side you will tend to stay more in branch. Army medics work mostly with the Army. Navy Corpsmen will work on ships as well as on the ground with Marines.

You technicians (lab techs, x-ray etc) will be in hospitals or ships of course.

Some differences specific to the branch would be with the Navy you could be on a hospital ship, the Air Force has the reconfigured aircraft that can transport ICU patients.

Overall though, a medic/corpsman does the same general things in Army, Navy or Air Force, a doctor does the same things no matter what the branch.

For a career, you need to ask yourself first what type of job do you want to do for the military, medic/tech/doctor and then see what is available with each.

Beth Said:

Jobs available in the military and when you get out?

We Answered:

The military will help you. If you enlist, you can get the funding you need for your undergraduate training with the GI Bill. Then you can contract to go back into the military to fund your medical school and residency. Then you go back into the military and serve as an Officer and physician for the contracted period. Good luck.

Patrick Said:

Which candidate has military and medical experience?

We Answered:

Ron Paul served in the military as an Air Force flight surgeon, then he practiced medicine in civilian life for a few years before he entered politics.

Debra Said:

Thinking about going into a medical career, which of the branch of the military would be best for me?

We Answered:

IDK about you but right now i'm strongly thinking about being a medic for the army. 16 week medic school at ft sam houston. Also the army has a PA program that you can apply for after 3 years of service.

Judith Said:

Will they reinstate asthma waivers into the military any time soon?

We Answered:

best bet is to wait until the economy is better, to the point where not as many people are enlisting. recruiters short on their quotas might fight harder for your waiver. my guess, 4 years. they will eventually. before the recession, they were practically handing out waivers.
