Financial aid suspension appeal letter- feedback please!?

We Answered:

I think that you have valid reasons. I would recommend having someone proofread your appeal (perhaps an English teacher or a student who has excelled in English courses). I would also recommend that you immediately make an appointment with a psychiatrist to treat the depression. This is something that you shouldn't be waiting on... it's something you should have already done if it's one of your steps for preparing for the next semester. Then, you could write that you have started therapy sessions for the treatment of depression - this shows that you're serious and that you're being proactive. In addition, if medication is required to treat your depression... it can take months to get the medicine and/or dosage correct. It will be better to deal with the side effects while you're out of school, rather than dealing with that next semester. I would leave off the last paragraph, as there are many students that do not party, and most cannot afford to pay for schooling. Your previous paragraphs listing your medical problems prove that you aren't a typical student. I would also speak with someone at your school Learning Resource Center (may be a different name), about the tutoring schedule, available days for help, etc -- then you can include in your letter that you've already contacted them (list who you contacted and their position), and that you have all of the information for available hours, help, etc.

If you get denied, look at enrolling at a community college for a semester or two... it will be much cheaper to pay tuition there. Good luck to you.

is this a good financial aid suspension appeal?

We Answered:

The 3rd paragraph is too wordy and cries of "poor me". Cut it in half and offer proposed changes you plan to make like: I will devote XX hours per weekday to study and xx hours per weekend to term papers.

They don't care about your medical issues. They care if you will graduate and make a contribution to the state. It's even possible that they'll think, well she has cancer. She'll die soon. Why waste money on her.

You need to convince them why you need the money so you can make a contribution.

I'm having a hard time with picking a degree path - Please help!?

We Answered:

Hey..

Not getting certified, not holding down a job.. all that was necessary due to the pregnancy and looking after your children.. i think you should try look past the frustration of being stuck and indecisive with your career the past two years, and see your life in 1-2 yearly chunks, look broader at your life. youre already in two full time commitments (children, work) which later on is the norm, but youre still young and have your whole life ahead of you, and to sort this all out. some people can take up to 5 years to complete a degree part time due to other commitments, and raising two young children is certainly one of them.

Looking online, I'd say an Associates Degree in MC&B plus one or more additional skills looks like the norm for this qualification, and not to worry, there.

Personally i think full time education is not realistic unless you are feeling comfortable and assertive in yourself.. certainly when you need to be self motivated working from home, rather then in a lecture/teacher setting.. Also, I think you should enquire at the school what support they give for mothers, etc. regarding funds.

If I were you, id go for what makes me feel the happiest, to carry me along.. for me, thatd be finishing the qualification for certain as it has been dragging you down for a while, now.. seeing where that gets you whilst you build up your CV over the next couple years raising your kids, trying to find a job thatd make you look good.. etc etc..

Yes I believe I.T. is pretty saturated.. this is pretty interesting link on it: http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/answers-2007070… one guy on there suggests 'medical informatics' asa qualification, whatever that is.. check it out-?

Should I quit my job?

Talk to your old boss again and ask to change your departure date to mid. November. You should be able to cash in any accrued vacation time anyway... so your last pay check is going to be larger than you anticipated.

If you do not have funds to cover you for a couple of weeks then it is high time to re-assess your financial habits. Working at the cruise ship will give you plenty opportunity to put a nice nest egg together.

Changes are the "norm" in the entertainment business and frankly, if you can't handle this then you will have a problem. Has nothing top do with Disney.... they are staffing their cruise ships and you are just one small cog in the big machine of Disney. Don't disappoint them and use the time to bring your stuff in order. This is not a 9 to 5 job.... you will be gone for 6 months at the time and should probably start reducing your household items that need to go in storage, etc. There is a good way to bring in extra funds... sell excess stuff.

Discuss It!
