Medical School in VA Question?

We Answered:

ANY university should be Ok, as long as you have an excelent gpa mcat scores, and do well in the interview. It is not where you studied, is what you did while you were studying.

Brittany Said:

I'm pending 80, 90, or maybe 100% disabled, I separated <1 yr ago with honorable. Possible medical retirement?

We Answered:

If you've already separated/ ETS'ed then you won't get medical retirement. You can however get VA benefits and disability if the VA gives them to you. They aren't going to give you medical retirement after separation if you ETS'ed. In order to get it you would have needed to be medically discharged, gone to MERB, MMRB and gone before the medical board and deemed unfit for duty. Your discharge papers (DD214) would say Medically discharged/Honorable and so on.

BTW unless your medical conditions keep you from working at all it is doubtful you will get 60% or more for disability. I've seen guys who have injuries that make working full time next to impossible and only get 75% wwith more TIS then you've got. Talk to the VA rep at your local VA they will get the paperwork started if you qualify.

Joanne Said:

I can't find a job that relates to my major. Is being a Nurse's Aide good for a Social Work major?

We Answered:

One area you could look for a job in is with traumatic Brain Injury (this is something that the VA is having to work with a lot). There may be entry level positions you could qualify for in your communities TBI program. The other area to look at is homeless programs. Many homeless are vets and this would give you good experience with the population.
